Default Looking to play college tennis autumn 2013

I am a 21-year-old man from Finland, whose studying information technology in the University of Oulu. I am interested in playing D2/D3 tennis in the USA starting Autumn 2013(or earlier). I have played tennis since 2008 minus the time I served in the army. I would rate myself around 5.0 level. What would be my chances to get an athletic scholarship, my G.P.A from high-school is pretty good too.

I contacted a company, that is offering me a service where the give me advice and try to advertise my profile to Universities in the USA. They said that I would most likely be eligible for a partial scholarship, which I think is fair enough. Any good piece of advice on these forums? Going to the states has been dream and goal for some time now.

Here are some of my athletic achievemenets:

2nd place in A-class tournament
1st place in National class championships
2x B-class tournament won
2x B-class runner-up
5x C-class tournament won
1x D-class tournament won

Multiple league matches won

Doubles:

3x A-class doubles tournament won
2x A-class doubles tournament runner-up
1st place In National class championships in doubles
2x B-class doubles tournament won
2x B-class doubles tournament runner-up

Multiple league matches won

Your age could be a problem in the NCAA. When did you finish high school (pre-college education, whatever they call it in Finland?)

The NAIA schools could be an alternative to the NCAA schools because of this issue.

2009, and enrolled to my University in 2009 as well. I belive that it should not be a problem because I have enrolled to a Uni straight after high-school and I would probably be viewed as a transfer student.

Autumn of 2013 would be your fifth year. I think you will only have one year of NCAA eligibility as a result. Not sure about NAIA.

If you want a shot at 4 years of college tennis in the U.S. look at NCAA Division II, NAIA and NJCAA.

It does not appear that for NCAA Division I you would have 4 years of eligibility. You should read the rules for NCAA tennis notably the age and international requirements and restrictions. Talk with some coaches. You may even be able to call the NCAA. Don't let us be the judge.

Good video. Could be shorter, around 10 minutes. You can play. Have you identified some schools and started your application process? At this point you'll need to have completed the NCAA clearinghouse and if your interested in NAIA, their clearinghouse process?

If you want to start this fall 2012 you may be running out of time. Have you been in touch with any schools? Are you waiting to hear from them or proactively reaching out yourself?

OP says (or earlier)

Anyway, post your video and see what coaches contact you, but also research schools yourself that seem like a good fit for yourself, and email their coaches yourself. Send them a link to your video if you want. Ask questions. The more you know, the easier this will be for you.

Also, you're going to find a school in d1 or 2 who wants you, so no need to wait to complete the NCAA clearinghouse.

Thanks Clark. Would help if I paid attention!

Agree with looking at schools now that you think may be of interest to you. Depending on what you want to study, know that not all schools have all the degree fields you may be interested in.

Should I try to send messages to both D1 and D2 schools?

Yes. Also, check with the NCAA to see how many years eligibility you would have playing either D1 or D2. I have a feeling those will be different for you due to your age.

I think that there are multiple restrictions conserning D1. D2 would be more more likely to be possible.
