The moral of this thread is, measuring what you need from a reel. The real length that matters is 36-38 feet, or enough to string a racket without coming up short.

If one strings the same model racket all the time, they will figure out eventually how much they actually use, and I'm willing to bet it's not 40 feet.

This. Just too easy.

Being serious & answering two questions or just making a point:

I have a table that is 2.5' long and pull 16 times for 40 feet. However, I use a Prince 90 that only needs 32.5' of string so I only pull 13 times and I save money by buying reels of string. I agree the savings wouldn't be worth purchasing a reel for racquets that require nearly 40 feet of string over a set.

I grab my neighbors cat and tie about 5 inches of string to its leg. I send my pitbull after it and cut when it gets caught. Results may vary.

I also hand fish with reels of synthetic gut. I let the large mouth bass run 40 feet exactly before i haul it in. Also pre-stretches the string pretty well.

or....

I just use my wingspan.

I have a stand up machine with a reel holder under the turn table. I used 2 pieces of red tape on my turn table to mark off 1'. I just grab the string and pull out with one hand stationary on the lead mark along the side of the turn table while counting in my head. It's as quick as pulling it off the reel, never been short and don't waste too much either.

I know all of the measurements by heart. I can't tell you the exact length it takes to string a 16 main babolat on my machine besides that it is 3 1/2 measures of my wingspan. Kblade 98 is 3 and 3/4. 19 crosses takes 3 and 1/4.... and so on.

From my experience the best way to learn and get faster at these things is... Experience. Redundant aint it?
