Default Ideal tennis academy (tennis center) for development of world class tenmnis players

If you is given $10 million grant (or whatever you need), will you be able to create a "ideal tennis academy", that actually produces top 100 (or better) players? How should the academy look?
Some thoughts here http://wp.me/p2iyrR-bj

Interesting, read Johan's quote, wonder if he understands that none of the current top players are/were coached by Grand Slam champs.

I got an interesting comment on the article from Romanian coach, who used to live in USA and can compare American and European approaches for development tennis players. Read it and share your thoughts.

I can see it now... a new TV reality show on the Tennis Channel called "Academy Impossible" starring Robert Lansdorp.

Just like the show Restaurant Impossible, Robert can come in and overhaul an academy once a month. Just think, in 4 years time we'd have 50 academies all playing a la Robert the Great.

I'm afraid it ain't that easy.

Who is "Mike Erwin?" No wonder he feels that ex tour players do not always make good coaches. Then who does? "Mike Erwin?"

Former pros were either ranked too high and bad coaches, i.e. Jay Berger, or to low and bad coaches, i.e. Patrick McEnroe. Source, TWTT message board.

Former pro coaches, if they are involved with the USTA will not win with this crowd.

Former high ranked pros make great coaches, i.e. Brad Gilbert (source A. Agassi), Ivan Lendl (source A. Murray), Tony Roach (source S. Edberg), or former highly ranked pros make horrible coaches, i.e. Jimmy Connors, Brad Gibert (source A. Roddick or A. Murray), Tony Roache (souce R. Federer).

I strongly agree with this:

Quote:
if you really want to raise elite players you just cant include them in an academy program with other 10 or 100 players. i think every kid needs their own program, every single one is unique so they have to train differently.
In order to reach maximum potential, a young tennis player needs a knowlegeable and enthusiastic coach who is willing to taylor their teaching to that specific player and develop that player to be the best he or she can be maximizing her or his natural strengths and talents...not to be a clone of anyone else.

Without coaches that are dedicated you cant make great players
So true.

I would put it into traveling teams for ITF and ATP/WTA touring. I would establish teams of players at several different levels of the tours, and hire coaches and trainers to travel with them in small groups. You can learn more from traveling and competing and adapting to the competitive level while forming bonds with your fellow team members and coaching staff. Players must become accustomed to time zone changes, different diets and life on the tour. A majority of these players would be in their twenties so that they have the maturity to make it on the tour.

Agree, USTA had "nat'l teams" in the past.
