Just bought a stringer

Just bought a stringer.
I was about to buy a Gamma X2 or something similar, but decided to wait a little more and keep searching the auction site and craigslist.

Well yesterday i found it, and today i picked it up.

It is a Gamma 4000
It is in great condtion, the old owner had been stringing for 35 years, and decided to retire, so he gave me all the tools, strings, grips and odds he had.

In my opinion it was a pretty good deal, now i dont have to bother my friend to use his stringer.

Thanks, pretty excited about it, comparing to the other option i was going to get.

Well about the bikes, yes there are more than one in the background but i dont think you can see the other haha, they are both 1000cc, both 2011 Kawasakis ZX10R.

Very Nice, Congrats! The Alpha is very similar to my Toalson Model D.

I put a 6 point mounting system on mine which was a nice upgrade (should you be thinking about it).

Yeah, when i did the search on the Gamma 4000 i found a thread about a guy who put a 6pt mouting system, i might do it eventually.


And why do you guys think it is mounted upside down?

I dont think i can fit the big clamp that not is up top, through the throat of the racket, but then again, i didnt try so im not sure.

One thing, the extra support (the wider section with pads) should offer better support for the head of the racquet. The head is the weaker end of the racquet hoop. Don't see why you would have a problem getting the C-clamp into the throat area.

The racquet is definitely mounted backwards. You have the head where the throat goes, and vice versa. On all stringers I have ever used the part of the stringer that adjusts for the length of the racquet goes at the throat.

I thought it was mounted backwards when I first looked. Now that I look closer it looks as though you have a four point mounting system and the three points are at the throat. Clearly upside down.

The top clamp looks like the old Prince clamps. Is there a P on the knob? Also your fixed clamp is backwards but if it stood straight up you could clamp the string. It could be you have several parts from several stringers.

Appears to be a good stringer to start with.

Backwards...Yes.

I have an older Prince machine w/ a similar clamp and occasionally string wooden or badminton racquets w/o open throats. When that happens, I just put the C-clamp on the inside of the frame pointing outward instead of the normal way you have it which is on the outside pointing inward. You might think it would get in the way of the last cross but I've never had a problem.

As Irvin asked and I'll ask too....Does that C-clamp have a P on it?

It looks like it is the upgrade to handle the Thunderstick type frames as the original C clamp could not handle 32 mm tips.

Looks similar to the Ektelon DE I picked up off the list by craig. About the same age too I'd suspect. I wonder if the H Model upgrade would work on yours as it looks so similar.
