Can federer hold on to the no 2 ranking till the french he has plenty of points to defend and he can only gain at Rome (highly unlikely).murray has little to defend but he is not that good on clay really.Nadal will be ranked no 5 on monday and he also has a lot to defend and if he is seeded 5 at the roland garros it ll be really be an interesting quarter

Around the FO/Wimby Fed might be fighting for number 4 with a resurgent Tsonga/Berdych/Delpo. |

It's all setting up perfectly for Fed. Just think of it, Fed will slip to #3 in the rankings and Murray moves up to #2. Meanwhile Nadal comes back and sweeps Madrid to barely move up to #4 just before the FO starts. Then Fed cannot play Nadal before the finals. Fed draws Murray and Nadal draws Djokovic so Fed has a free path to the final.

Hard to say. Murray obviously moves a little closer to Fed because of this tournament. Federer won't play Miami. And he has to defend ABN AMRO, Dubai, Indian Wells and Madrid(which he won't). So yeah, Murray will get to #2 if he doesn't screw up the clay season.

Could be. But Nadal can cover up any slips during the clay season by gaining points in the South American swing and in Madrid (don't forget he only has 90 points in Madrid to defend)

The draw at RG will have Fed and Murray on the same side, no doubt, and in the event Nads comes back, he'll be on their side as well, don't be surprised.

nadal is likely to be 5 - by the time he's back, he'll have loads of points to defend, so doubtful will be moving up much before the french. federer will probably drop i agree

Don't be so quick to dismiss Murray from the clay court equation. He ran a prime time Ralph close in 3 sets at RG a couple of years ago and had that fantastic match against premium Lance in Monte Carlo. I'd take him to beat federer on clay now.
