I was contacted by a few college coaches off of some recruiting website despite never playing usta. They asked for a video of me hitting and evaluated from there. I currently play NAIA on scholarship.

Unless you talking about an elite program, there will be open tryouts that will allow you to show what you got against the current roster and other freshmen. Tournaments and rankings may put you on a coach's radar, but unless you are in search of an athletic scholarship, it isn't really necessary.
Just curious, of the top 8 players on your team...how many had no usta/itf experience?

First singles didn't have much experience as he should, so he was only a 2 star and 2nd singles also didn't have as much experience as he should so he was only a 3 star. The two of them just won regionals and are headed to Mobile, AL next week for nationals. Other players mostly played high school matches and a few tournaments so they were 1 or 0 stars. Our 5th singles from last year only took up tennis in his senior year of h.s. and had no tournament experience. Outside of the starters only 1 player had some tournament background. It certainly helped having tournament experience, but some players played other sports in h.s. and have higher levels of athleticism to make up for their lack of tennis experience. Others have had a lot of instruction and have nice looking strokes, but lack match play and point construction. No matter, we take who we can get and they improve a lot.
