How do you guys get your parents to take off work early to drive to tournaments on fridays? I want to start playing tournaments and get better in situations like that but for the past 2 months when i have asked my mom she has always said no because they are all on friday. So how do you guys persuade your parents to take you?

Find out who else is attending & go early with them. Practice with them. Tell your folks they can join you on the Saturday. They're working to pay for tennis. It's a stressful economy.

Tennismom is right. Us teenagers sometimes forget how expensive tennis really can be.

I am surprised you don't have access to Saturday tournaments. Around here, there are lots of weekend-only sectional level 5 tourneys. Does your section not have any such events? Are you starting at too high a level?

All of the Level 5s around here start on Fridays and end on Sundays.

I have the same problem too. I'm 17 and I can drive except I have so many restrictions on me. I can't drive in other states until May, which is way too late as I'll be done with USTA. I also can't drive after 11 p.m. until May. All of the tournaments are at least an hour away and with traffic, I most likely wouldn't get home until after than, which would put me at risk for a ticket. Both my parents work and this is probably the most important time of my junior career, seeing as I'll be in college next fall.

Clark i just look at the tennislink website for my section since i am just starting out to play tournaments i do not know how to tell what level a tournament is. The ones at my local club are level 1 but there are only two or three per year so =/

Check around to see if there is a local teaching pro that is taking a group of kids to the tournament, and ask if you can travel with that group (even if you are not a regular member of that academy or lesson group). Your parents might have to sign a waiver, and pay a couple hundred bucks for expenses, but it will get you safely to-and-from the tournament. Plus, it's more fun traveling to tournaments with a group.

Yeah, at a club close to me, the pro will take a group of kids to the tournaments.
