Stringing every other cross? (the most open string pattern)

Has anyone tried playing with a racket that has every other cross strung? (i.e., stringing a 18x20 racket as an 18x10)

There seems to be lot of hype about the new Wilson 99S. At what point does the string pattern become too open, and there starts to be a diminishing return?

I know some members did this a while back. Some had positive reviews, but they all noted the lack of string life that comes with such an open pattern.

I did that. It was awesome. And it is not illegal. It is perfectly legal.
It generated very considerable spin, and was very nice soft and stretchy to hit with. Totally recommend it.

Yes, string life was short, as expected. It only lasted me 2 days.

Next time, I will just choose something durable for the crosses, and see how far that goes.

How long do your strings normally last?
