Default Federer's indoor carpet record

I noticed Federer's indoor carpet record last few years is pretty mediocre
for his standard.

We're talking about 'last few years'. He dominated tour like no one ever did.
Plus we all know he tries to win every thing.

For an average player, he has pretty good record. 2 finals in Swiss indoor
and 1 final at master's. But we're talking about Federer of last few years.
As far as I know, he never won a title on carpet(correct me if I'm wrong).
I understand indoor seasons became non-factor these days.

He had some foot injury in last years masters final. But in 2 finals of Swiss
indoor, I think we can safely assume he pretty much wanted to win but
failed to do so. And recently he pretty much skips indoor carpet seasons.

This makes me wonder what makes him relatively vulnerable on real fast carpet court ?
Wimbledon is fast but he didn't do well until its courts got
really slow in 2003. Is he really a slow court players in 90's standard just like
many other current top players who are dominating the tour ?

he won his first title (milan 2001) on carpet...
(nb: he didn't play often on carpet during recent times)

I agree, fast flat shots give him big trouble, as well as everyone else LOL

IMO the grass needs to be fresher, slicker, and fasterLOL

Federer has never won a Masters title indoors. I guess people just play real tennis against him, with the pressure of the slams off, rather then be awed by a player who just be a run of the mill top 20 player if he played in anything other then the worst mens field in history.

Yep, but his 1st break thru big title(ATP Masters) was on the slowest
clay of Hamburg...

Since Federer became No. 1, he only played 4 indoor events excluding Davis Cup, Rotterdam in 04, Thailand 04, 05, and MC 05. He won Thailand twice, lost in Rotterdam to Henman, in MC to Nalbandian. It's just too small sample to draw conclusion.

Actually Federer doesn't really like the indoor carpet surface and this can be seen by the fact that he hasn't played in indoor carpet events since 2003 where he lost all of them.

Paris TMS 03 QF, Basel 03 R16, Paris TMS 02 QF, Basel 02 SF

Nadal also has pretty dismal records on indoor carpet (like 1st
and 2nd round losses) but he still seems to want to play on fast
courts....

He hasn't played one single master series event indoor since he became No. 1. You can't win if you don't play.

Because he was injured in 04 and 05.

Since he became No 1, he switched from carpet to clay court
tournament in Swiss.

He had 2004 and 2005 injurys who kept him from playing the fall indoor season and MS during his most dominant years. To say he doesn't like indoor is based on nothing whatsoever. 4 events in 2 years doesn't proof anything. He skiped some indoor events after AO, because he always go deep or wins there and he tends to take some time off after Slams - playing no DC as well.

You mean the bruised shinbone that he had in his nightmare and the practice injury the following year?

He didn't play during the fall in 04 and 05 indoor season. The point is if you don't play indoor events due to injury, you can't win titles. He won many non-carpet titles because he played them.

He played Gasstaad on clay only once since becoming No. 1. He had planned to play Basel in 04 and 05, got injured both times.

Yep, my posting already said that he skips indoor tournaments recently.
For example, he chose outdoor hard court of Tokyo instead of indoor
hard/carpet of other tournaments.
Why does he avoid indoor carpet then ?
Are you concluding he can win carpet if he plays then ??

He played in Thailand in 04 and 05 indoor events, and won both times.

You'll know the answer when he plays on carpet. Most players who can play great on grass can play great indoor.
