Well, his strokes aren't as compact as Agassi's, he just can't stand right on the baseline. He just doesn't have the technique to take it as early as Agassi can. Agassi does that to everybody, in rallies - he pushes them further and further back, and then runs them ragged. Roddick's serve kept it close - though he was being outrallied and outplayed, he got enough free points on his serve to only be broken once. But he was never able to outplay Agassi from the baseline to get a break.

I couldnt believe Roddick never got a chance to break, thats great! Agassi was really impressive tonight, what a battle this was. I hope Agassi takes Hewitt tomorrow and wins this tournament, he needs it and he deserves it.

Go Agassi!

Looks like Agassi has got a second wind this year and it is turning into a hurricane.

Wow. I had forgotten Andre could play like this... Yeah it seems his serve has picked up. At last, someone else than Federer who doesn't choke against Roddick! (ok, except that second set tiebreak which Andre badly screwed up).

Andre screwed up the entire second set, not only the tiebreak.

that match literally put me at the edge of my seat. my mom likes roddick, and i like aggassi. i was screaming in the 2nd set when aggasi missed those two "gimmies".... however, there was like one ball i remember, roddick hit it deep in the corner, and aggasi was on the run, and he actually got it. i wondered how he got it, and so did roddick. i guess roddick wasnt expecting it to come back, and he volleyed it into the net......

i gotta give andre mad props for this match, and roddick too. i mean, aggasi is really metally tough. after losing that 2nd set tiebreaker in that fashion, i probably would have broken down, but not andre.. i was so nervous that whole match, but andre pulled it out. i kinda like to see the old guy make a comeback.

Andy can hardly squeeze out one breakpoint on Andre's serves and Andre serves is not even a lethal as many on tour. If you think Andy can win against Federer with this play, you have no clue. I don't have the stats, but I believe Andy hardly did any damage on Andre's second serves. That shows the weaknesses of his returns. If you haven't noticed, almost each time Federer plays against Andy, he outaced Andy and Andy's aces counts drop by at least half on average.

No doubt though, it is a good match, highly entertaining. In most cases, most players have to stand far behing to return andy serves and within few strokes will be forced far away from the baseline and blast out of court, it hardly happens with Andre or Roger, they both have the abilities to take the balls very early and that's why they are so good playing against Andy.

I should have read your post before posting. You said what I wanted to say about the match.

Agassi guesses on serves to go for big returns and so is aced a lot, unlke Federer who pays for angles or floats it back if Roddick isn't coming in. The sheer power of Roddick's game is very impressive, and this is the first time post-Gilbert he's been taken down on a hard court by a fellow power baseliner.
Agassi showed Roddick's return game is still only average.

"roddick has really got some work to do. his backcourt game really stunk. roddick is a distant number 2." -driger

wtf?? how can you say that, Roddick was playing very well from the baseline and it could not have been any closer but Agassi knew when to step up his game. Also Roddick came up with some unbelievable shots from the baseline and so did Agassi.
