I'm 12 years old and I'm playing junior competition around my area, around local suburbs. I'm from Frankston, Victoria (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_of_Frankston) and I'm wondering how to start playing events higher than the current level I'm playing at. What I mean is, I've never actually played an official tournament. I don't have any kind of membership with Tennis Australia/Victoria or anything like that... in fact to sum it all up, I'm only a member at my local club (Frankston East Tennis Club FYI) and I only play competition against other clubs around the area, and I'm wondering how to start playing real events in, uh, 'real' tournaments. I'd like to take the next step and start playing tournaments. I'm aware that you have to do the entry form and blah blah blah for a tournament, but am I supposed to have any kind of membership with Tennis Australia/Victoria? I need all the help and information I can get!
Assistance is MUCH appreciated. |

I think you need to be a member of Tennis Australia/VIC ($10...I think). Well IMO I think the levels you should play are: (ascending order)
1) Junior Comps, local club 2) Local tournaments 3) If you're getting better, travelling to tournaments 4) Tournaments that give you AR points when you win 5) Tournaments that actually require points...open level? And I don't know where to put this, but somewhere on my list: Tennis team/squadron representing your club played at a high lvl I hope this helps, GTR

Sorry, I forgot to mention the membership for Tennis Australia/VIC. I don't think you have to go on the Tennis AUS site to apply for a membership. When you see 'official' tournament sheets, there is a part where they mention,
"Are you a registered member of Tennis VIC or another state or territory?" YES/NO If Yes, give registration number:____________ If No, you must include $10 to become a registered member. (compulsory) GTR

That's just the PAI Personal accident insurance that every player must have to participate in Tennisvic events. Play pennant and you won't have to worry about paying it on entries, just qoute your number.

http://www.tennisresults.com.au/
to look at just completed, current and upcoming tournaments. And to get information about them. www.tennisvic.com.au news etc. for your state and entry forms for upcoming tournaments. as well as tournament calenders. You don't need and Tennis Australia membership. The money you pay depends on what tournament you enter and what events you enter in it.
