I am enjoying having the "Shara-poseurs" and other gangly tennis women getting taken to school by Serena.

I do hope that Justine can use slice, mobility, and smarts to beat her, but I think Serena in the draw definitely means you won't end up with someone like Dementieva in a final hitting a 50mph serve.

I used to dislike Serena because she was one of the first to turn WTA into power hitting unforced error fests, but she has proven she can play that game better than anybody else.

No one player owes another player anything; the sport is about one person against another--trying to defeat the other, not some damned social club--the latter criticism the sport has (at times deservedly) suffered from observers. I also find if funny how a few years ago when Henin and Mauresmo made the most weak-minded, UNSPORTSMAN-like compaint about (to paraphrase) the Williams sisters dominance being "bad for the game" but next to no one called them on such a obviously petty slam. the universal answer to that petty slam should have been "then do your damn job and beat them!"

Further, notice how Hingis' hate-filled, infamous (paraphrasing again) "looks like a man" comment about Mauresmo hardly recieved a much heat--and Hingis was allowed to go on and on with her so-called career (plus nowhere comeback) sans the kind of endless hatred spewed at the sisters, when Hingis' comment was (and remains) part of one of the most controversial forms of intolerance in today's world.

Tennis still suffers from stomach-turning double-standards where the Williams sisters are concerned and only the blind cannot see the reason why. Not since the height of John McEnroe's career have I witnessed a player or players who either transformed the game or captured mainstream international attention so much, yet are trashed for the most paper-thin, intellectually and certainly morally questionable of reasons.

In absolute agreement. I don't know them personally, so I honestly couldn't say whether I might hate them or something them or not.

Valid points, Hingis has uttered many racist and sexist remarks about other players and doesn't get the hating on that the Williams sisters have, though granted in the past people have replied about her lame excuse for her former "retirement".

Yet I do not agree with the remark that the Williams sisters (notice I don't ever include their crazy father) would be even more hated if they weren't American. I think if they were not American they would have much different responses to incidents. In many countries, calling "racism" just doesn't strike with the same effect, plus your parents or friends would have told you to keep your mouth shut and let it pass more often as they continued to support you.

This should be one of the polls where you can select more than one answer...

I don't dislike the Williams because they are good at what they do and they beat Sharapova everytime (Serena at least)

Don't hate them, but don't like them either. The excuses and the complaining, mainly.

Are you talking about Dwayne Wade? He was in the Williams' box. He was even interviewed during the broadcast.

Ditto. Sharapova going down in flames is a wonderful sight.

How do you know thats not true?

And why does everyone have something against arrogance, its sport, if your that good, why try and package it...so you dont offend people.

I think Serena is very, very good...and very proud of it.

Insulting other players is not cool though...

I love Serena. Venus I don't like because it seems she never really gets excited or emotional (excluding her wins at grand-slams) after or even during her matches. It's almost as if she only does it for her family, not for herself. You can see it in Serena's eyes that she knows there isn't a person she hasn't beaten or could beat. She always is entertaining to watch with her loud c'mons and grunt. I hope she demolishes Henin tommorow.

No, there was a guy who was sitting next to Richard during last night's match who was jumping up and down and going off towards the end. It wasn't Dwayne Wade....

I hate their excuses, but there are a lot of things I like about them. They actually seem like sweet girls. And I like how they stick together. Serena is arrogant sometimes, but that's pretty common in tennis. So is Roger, so was Sampras, and so where most of the other top players. Johnny Mac is lucky he's not black. People find his antics funny and he's way worse, but he's white so it's just funny.

Both always seem to be pissed off and not enjoying a single minute when they're playing. No joy in Mudville

I think they are both burnt out from a childhood of tennis, tennis, tennis and dear old dad but still have the talent if they would work at it. Serena was amazing at the Australian final. She'll get bored again and fail. Make another comeback when she needs some attention. She certainly won't get it from her clothing design talent

I don't hate them (and it's stupid to always lump them together as if they were joined at the hip--they are two different people), but they still never credit their opponents for playing well. I listened to Serena the other day (can't remember which match), listening to hear if she said anything about the opponent, and once again, it was only about herself. The arrogance is galling. I don't think any of the male players, no matter how arrogant, fail to give props to opponents. I mean Roger always says how great he's playing (when he's not playing Canas, natch), but he always says something gracious about the other guy. I don't think I've ever heard Serena credit someone else when she loses; it's always that she herself has played badly.

Is there an option for all of the above? I'm afraid to say that I don't like them. I would called a racist then.
