My son (19) likes to hit the ball around with his girlfriend. They are not really into high-level tennis playing -- just having fun. He is responsible and respectful of my property and I let him take my new Roddick Babolate racquet and my old Prince. (since they need two racquets and I only own two).
Anyway, is it a bad idea to allow other players to use your tennis racquet? Any problems or concerns? Thanks OX |

Only when I'm hitting with them/on court next to them, unless they're really good friends.

I only let people who respects rackets and who i trust. Also before i give it to them i think about these things.
1. Are they going to take care( no scratches, out of rain etc) 2. If they do damage it, are they willing to pay for the repair costs 3. Are they going to steal it? 4. Who the hell are they? and yer |

Wait, do you mean use as in.....
1. Take out for a hit while your not watching 2. Hit around with in front of you ? If it's 2, of course as post before. If 1, well I'm not that worried unless I don't know them at all. Where do you guys live and who do you play with to be worried about them smashing it???

No, I never let people touch my racquets, ever. I've scratched them up enough.

But it's true, I don't let anyone near them. Only I am allowed to abuse them.

Oxford - I suggest you go to a Used Sporting Goods store and get some "decent" frames to be your Loaners.
I wouldn't give my expensive frames to people to take away from ME and use. (Sure. If they're on the next court and I trust them, but not out of my sight.) - KK

I let people on my team borrow them and my friends can use them anytime they want...because i know that they will respect others property.
However, i hate it when people in school who cant play complain about the school's racquets and they need to borrow my racquets. I mean seriously, is using my racquets automatically going to make you really good? And they usualy dont know what they are doing and end up scratching my stuff. I usualy still let them borrow it though, since i try to be a nice guy...but i really regret it sometimes since my stick is discontinued and hard to find.

I don't mind usually as long as they are capable players, not scrubs who could potentially damage the frame. Unfortunately no one likes playing with my rackets. In HS I played with Prince Problend strung at 68 lbs on my Radical Twintubes and Ti.Radicals. Now I play with Cyberflash or Big Ace strung at 64 lbs. Not too many people are fans of the "board-like" feeling of my rackets.

Many years ago my sister brought a friend to play tennis, and he was using one of our new Prince rackets (when those big heads were new, aluminum frame). He got mad after a point and smacked the racket on the ground, totally bending the frame. He never saw my sister again, but my parents didn't pursue the cost of the racket because they felt sorry for his family for some reason I forget.

A couple weeks ago the strings on my racket broke. I didn't have any replacements but my cousin was nice enough to let me borrow his old nCode & ProStaff (he uses a Prince Diablo). I'm really grateful for that because I needed a racket for the tennis team tryouts.
