Default The Greatest?

Smpras & Laver are the two greatest serve volleyers + baseliners of all time (in other words all court players). Connors & Lendl the two greatest competitors, Edberg & McEnroe the two best pure serve and volleyers. Borg the greatest baseliner with Agassi close. Can Federer become the greatest baseliner ever? After all, as 2004 has gone on its become increasingly obvoius why he parted with his coach, he wants to play from the backcourt all the time. What do you think?

If his backhand continues to improve and ends up being a shot that's as good as his forehand, yes. He's certainly the best baseliner in tennis today. I don't think he parted with Lundgren because he wanted to play from the baseline, I think he left him because he wasn't being as successful as he should have been.

borg, connors, lendl, probably should all be cosidered as the best baseliners. connors is the single greatest competitor of all time, period. federer is more of a laver type all-court player, sampras and mac are pure serve and volleyers. the 60's, 70's players were in a different era with different equipment, etc. put a wood dunlop maxply in the modern players hands, and put them on a court with borg, connors, mac, or laver, in there prime? ii dont think the modern players could hang with them. and vice-versa. because of the bigger rackets it takes less precision to strike the ball cleanly, and therefore allowed many more bigger, stronger players into the game.
