Good service, prices, etc. its mainly a site for evert matches, but there are quite a few rare 80s mens matches as well. I recommend Mecir d McEnroe '87 WCT Finals. It was one of the few times I've seen Mac outplayed(he often got overpowered, not out played-I'm stealing that line from urban) |

Yeah that matches the description of his play quite well. One of the few who could outplay anyone. I remember when Wilander played him for the first time and afterwards he told swedish press that he felt like a spectator, this was the best player I have ever played he said.
The match I would love to see is the 1986 Miami final between Lendl and Mecir. He crushed Lendl there. Edit it was the 1987 final and this website has that match. Great! Thanks.

I'm going to try to digitize a VHS copy of a match between Mecir and Lendl. I'll post here if and when it's up.

My memory fails me on the specifics, but was that match actually in '86 in Dallas or something like that? I remember watching one between Mac and Mecir and it was incredible - I swear with all of their angles they basically were never actually in the court but were playing from places outside of the lines. Really cool display of finesse! |

I don't get Lendl's forehand approach in the first half of the clip. He hits a very weak forehand off a sitter, which is odd for him, right to Mecir's backhand then charges right up on the net. Mecir was definitely the better man. What happened to Miroslav in the slams?

Mecir's Grand Slam results:
Australian Open RU (1989) French Open SF (1987) Wimbledon SF (1988 ) U.S. Open RU (1986) I think the reason Mecir was not more successful was because he had a weak serve compared to other top ranked players. Last edited by Mick : 04-11-2007 at 10:12 PM. |

And also a very fragile mind and some back problems.
