Smile What's the use of Fed Cup?

I never knew why playing in Fed Cup for WTA players is important? Does playing in Fed Cup increase a WTA player's chances of getting selected to go to the Olympics?

Fed Cup is basically like the Davis Cup, but for female players. Players are motivated to play well for their countries.

But why risk injury to play Fed Cup? Why not instead spend the time to play a tournament where a trophy can be taken home? Maria doesn't care about Fed Cup, neither do Justine and Kim.

You can bring a trophy home if the country ends up winning the finals. Maria was actually going to play in Fed Cup this year before her hamstring injury, and Justine and Kim have played last year and even before then.

So there is a trophy after all. Even though I have never hit a tennis ball in my life, I have developed the disease of trophy-hunger.

I'm salivating. Does each member get one or is there just one trophy for the whole team?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think they inscribe the winning team's names on the big trophy and give each person on the team a miniature "replica" of the trophy so the winning players can keep it at home.

Wow! A nice trophy plus a shot at the Olympic Gold! I say it's worth it!
