No worries Paulman, let me use an old pirate trick using smoke and mirrors. SO! I have three wilson blx 95 16x18s. I want to ask you a question about string tension. This is my current set up: Adrenaline at 57lbs. The trick I'm finding out is to let them sit in my bag for a couple days before I hit with them. Even then, I want have to hit for an hour to get the optimal feel. I had Drakulie dynamic tension test the racquet and he said it was about 50lbs after the hour hit. When I string the racquet at 50lbs, it does not feel the same. So what is going on? How do I get the perfect feel right from the stringer? Don't leave us hanging. ![]() |

I think a format that let's you play dubs and singles in the same 'match' would be cool! I'm actually not freaking out about less tennis just yet...after how much I've already played this year, it feels good to take a bit of a break. When mixed combo starts up, then, I'll be raring to go...or ~something~ like that!

With that said, I have a theory. String tensions are dynamic - always changing -- specifically it's always dropping tension. Typically string tensions will take a day to lose about 10% tension from the time it was restrung even if it isn't used. If it is used, the drop will be a lil more. After that 1st day, the tension drop is much more consistent but minor. Now I have not had any experience with Lux Adrenaline to say for sure but many strings don't really 'settle' in until it's been hit/used for a little bit - how much/long depends on how hard one hits. So, 57 lbs can very reasonably drop to 50 lbs after a couple days & maybe 30 mins of moderate hitting. Stringing it 52 lbs & immediately getting out there on the courts to hit should get u similar feel to it after that day old 57 lbs stringjob. It will, however, still feel like it needs to 'settle' in. It's possible a different string can feel more 'settled' in without any hitting required. Hope this answer was in line with what you asked? If not, sorry for the long gibberish! Lol Last edited by PaulMan : 08-25-2011 at 04:32 PM. |

Sup, one quick addition: I have heard people stepping on stringbeds to soften them up. Not necessarily recommending this but it's something to consider to help get that feel you seek from the start?

i totally see Ren in the Irene photo! earthquakes, hurricanes... the END is NEAR my friends! repent! REPENT! especially you sappy, all that pizzorn watching is sinful, pal!
~~~~~~ Sup, you should use a guitar tuner app on your phone to see what frequency the stringbed is at when you like it. i think the program i use on my droid is called G-String I have realized that I like D#/ 1244hz but can still play with them if they drop to D/1200 but once it gets to C# the control is gone. Once you know what frequency you like you can adjust the tension on your other racquets pretty much perfectly to dial it in. another issue might be becuase you are using luxilon. i had a tough time about tension until i switched to a string that didnt drop so much, which makes "dialing it in" tougher. now that i use head sonic pro @61lbs, i no longer worry about tension, it stays for weeks just like i need it. not as explosive as fresh lux, but much more consistent. of course, i still suck at tennis and lose to people that have no idea how to hit a topspin shot, but that is just because i am old and refuse to bend my knees. but at least i dont worry about my string tension at all anymore. ~~~~ i am going to the Bird today... not sure why. maybe pick up some shoes. dunno. |
Just remember to crab a little clipboard by the shoes and write the product and color codes down.
The Bird has thier issues, but they are still the cheapest place to get in season Nikes, and exclusive Asics colors. I think they still Stock Diadora shoes, I really liked my Speed Pros. They wore out quick, but they were worth it. I usually just wore them during matches.
Ha. When I was 10-11 years old, I would line up old birtyday cake candles on my window sill, light them and read deep into the Delta night. Lucky I didn't burn the house down.
May you ace all your tests and all your opponents on the court.
Apologize for the double post, but had to show you guys this. Went to nearby courts today to practice some serves and saw 3 older guys playing dubs with a women of indeterminable age. Hit my serves for about an hour when the lady decided to leave. On her way out, she asked if I wanted to hit a few with her. I had noticed that her game was appreciably advanced for the group she was with, so I said yes.
I noticed while hitting with her that she hit forehands from both sides. I remembered a Memphis woman who did that back in the 60s and who actually made the men's varisity tennis team at Memphis State. Found out in the middle of our hit that she is that same lady... http://www.commercialappeal.com/news...n-first-court/ Bottom line - we are now regular hitting partners. Wow, am I lucky or what?!
Her strokes are still awesome, but her mobility isn't good. Her legs didn't age as well as mine. She would be a great dubs partner with a mobile partner who doesn't mind chasing a lot of balls.
Only you, good buddy, only you. But I must admit she is a very attractive older lady. If you promise to behave, I'll introduce you when you arrive for the Great Grease Burger 2012 Eatout and Celebration. TO ALL: Hope everyone rode out the storm safely and that the worst for everyone is some lost power inconvenience. Worried about you guys this weekend.
