Cindy, I've played up the last two years with reasonable success. I'll be fine, thanks. I'm ok not being a big fish in a small pond. Nursing school has shown me how lucky we are to even be playing tennis and able to complain about the stuff we do. All about perspective.

Downs...dont worry about it...you'll see when the scores go up. Why do you ask?

I'd say congratulations, but I can't spare the saliva. I am too busy licking my wounds. 4.0, she is a beach, I'm tellin' ya.

The computer did some funky things around here. KH and MR are still 3.5s. Go figure. And one of my 3.5 singles players, NMS, won all of her singles matches and eeked out a tie against someone who bumped up, and she stayed 3.5.

The good news is that my combo team lives! Only one lady bumped up from 3.5 to 4.0. Which means we are in the hunt to make 7.5 Combo Districts again!!

It's fixed, I tell ya. The distribution here in our metro area is a damn-near perfect bell curve.

At our club, we had more than the usual bump downs from 4.0....and no wanky bump-ups. In fact, if I had to say so, they probably got it right this time. Lots of us are on the bubble and I wouldn't be surprised to see some more up-this-year-down-the-next...except that, with 40+ counting, that might make for some big reassessments next year as the younger 40s (in theory) beat up on the early 50s (who'd just aged into "Seniors"). I still think the whole age thing is a crock. So is some of the gender stuff.

/Rant over

I probably won't be playing much USTA next year anyway. Like Topaz, I was already on two 4.0 and a 7.5 Combo team. Spots are secure if I want 'em. Which...I don't think I do.

I played 4.0 for several years before I became 4.0. I will be interested to hear your experiences for next year.

I swear, it was a lot tougher being a 4.0 on a 4.0 team than being a 3.5. I'm not quite sure why. Some of it, I suppose, is self-imposed pressure to live up to a number. "I need to hit like a 4.0 now" type stuff.

There was more going on, though. I think I had easier 4.0 opponents when I was playing up. The captain perhaps knew it will look like a sacrifice to put a 3.5 on Court One or in the line-up against killer opponents, so she tended to give the 3.5 Cindy an easier draw?

The minute I had 4.0 by my name, captains weren't the least bit shy about tossing me to the wolves -- sometimes with a much weaker partner. Maybe all of this is less of an issue for singles players, though.

Anyway . . . why are you scaling back, AQ?

Good enough...but I got put in the forefront sooner than I would've liked. My long-time dub partner (also a 3.5) and I were supposed to play together. Both springs ('11 and '12) she had some emergency surgery that kept her out of play...and I had to play singles or with an uncommon partner. Both of those teams are still intact, so if I want to play, I've still got a slot. Although I'm hoping my partner can keep herself out of the OR this year, I still think I'd have to play a less-than-consistent slate. But none of that really bothers me.

What does bother me are the logistics and finances. Some of the leagues (including a non-USTA one that I really enjoy playing in) overlap and the schedules can be brutal. Two and three matches a week just ain't gonna cut it around here. Stupid start times, hellacious reschedules. And the money is crazy. ~$40/league. Nah. I'll keep my time and money...and play some more for fun.

I think it does make a difference with singles. Plus, when I do play dubs, I have a set partner already, possibly one more depending on whether she plays this year or not.

Bottom 4.0 is really 3.5...has been for a while, plus the 3.5s that play up. My team put me in at singles for playoffs, and I didn't feel like I was getting thrown to the wolves. Maybe because we have a pro who has a say in the lineups...he said out loud that I got the nod because of how I was playing.

I paid my dues for several years...working and working on the strokes. So I feel ready. *shrug* Maybe that will change later one, but really...I still get to play, so all is good.

Oh *really*...I'm sure that went over well! Hahaha!

I'm sitting on the scores. But we are on track. I'll give Ms. Team America your regards on Thursday. If you could help us out by getting AP stuck in traffic that would be much appreciated.

Our '7.5' teams need to meet in the final at Boar's Head...all out war then my friend!!!

How are your 8.5, 9.5, 10.5, 11.5, 12.5 teams doing?????

Mr. Clutch, in sure, has already procured your blood signature for 7.5 declaration.

8.5 has a tough one coming up! Good luck! I'd come watch but I have a date with Team America.

Not surprisingly, the latest ratings have brought out the crazies from NY again. Sad, isn't it.

I mean, it isn't like we made a big deal out of it when a certain someone was demoted last year, right?

Nursing school has given me an evil streak.
