Got the rice perfect this time. I swear I make it the same way every time...and yet, it's like a lottery of results. As some point, I suppose, I should break down and buy a rice cooker.

rice cookers are hit or miss depending on the hitting element under the rice pot. whatever u do, don't use a metal scrapper to scrap rice or else it will stick. we brought a National despite my mom's wishes. they are the elephant brand family but after 10 yrs, so far so good.

but not worth it if u eat rice in seldom. they make a microwavable one too now.

dinner for me is homemade silken chicken with sausage claypot rice. even made my own ricepot soy sauce sauce.

I am surprised no one said papa johns. 6 toppings large for $10

Aroma brand rice cooker has worked out fine for us. Last I saw, Costco had it for ~$20? Can't go wrong...

Old school rice cooking is awesome especially if you want slightly burnt crisp rice at the bottom. So awesome! Almost like rice crackers but with weight and depth of flavor! haha

Thats been done as stated previoulsy. With those Princes and that epic Mizuno Pro MV that auzzie had was like the spin monster of all frames in history.
That was a fun frame. Why did I sell it for $35 bucks again??

Rice is one of our staples (wife is Puerto Rican), and we've been using this rice cooker for years:

Simple & easy, gets the job done perfect every time.

i think i should have a rice cooker poll.
What's your favorite brand of rice cooker?
- Zojirushi (elephant brand)
- National (i think National brought Tiger awhile back)
- Aroma (Can't go wrong since it's endorsed by Mr. Martin Yan)
- Black and Decker (surprisingly good for the price)
- Microwave Plastic Rice Cooker
- Stone Age Technology older schooler like me does this half the time by using a lacquered claypot and use charcoal to cook my rice. You can see me sometimes on sunny days with a hand fan to cook my rice on my deck. There is a big difference in taste. Yes, it does have a slight brown crust on the bottom and only use rice and water to create the crust. Humbles me to think how much time my ancestors took to cook a meal.

Anyone has experience in buying a house that's built in the 60's?
What are some of the stuff I should look out for?
So far I can only think of Lead and Radon Testing. But it's been gutted and rebuilt, I am hoping these problems will be kept to a minimal.

*yawn*

lost to BNT last night in dubs. 6-1, 3-6, 4-6. he hit more second serve aces (3) than first serve aces (2) against me. but towards the end of the night his serve didn't look like a fast moving blur. it only looked like a regular moving blur.

CB -- we have an elephant one. quick cook feature and keeping the rice warm for an entire weekend is nice. we mostly cook a mixture of kokuho rose and some brown rice. i think it's supposed to be healthier for you. i didn't even know rice can be cooked without a rice cooker. sounds complicated.

Sweet. I was planning on demoing some frames after the new year (VCORE Tour 97, one of the new Dunlops, maybe new Pro One 97) and was thinking of one of the new Blades or the PS 100 (+ a bunch of weight).

Since its a limit of 4 at TW, maybe I can eliminate the Blade from the list.

Let's set up a TWMAC kids tennis meet. Kids vs. kids while the parents just eat and drink.

My kid - can serve all double faults.

Dat's kid - can obsess about racket choice the entire time.

Auzzie's kid - can have lead poisoning.

Zap's kid - can bring the hotdogs.

hollywood's kid - can talk about the WNBA the entire time.

Sappy's kid - can show up, hit one ball, then sit in a chair the rest of the time.

I can bring my 15 yo to referree... and another 12 pack

Cool,

These are prob gone already from remodel, but asbestos tiles. Might be obvious, but look for signs of moisture in the basement walls if any of them are exposed (peeling paint, etc.). I bought a house that was built in 63, and the biggest expense was waterproofing the basement later after I found out how much water came in on big storms. If furnace and water heater are newer than the 60s, that will be good. The old ones can last forever, but newer ones are so much more energy efficient. Are the windows and roof newer as well? Original windows are probably letting out a lot of heat if they weren't replaced in the remodel.

Good luck! Is this your first house?

I've got a Zojirushi as well... I think it was a wedding gift from 10 years ago.

I always use the "quick cook" feature. Why the hell would I want to wait longer for rice?

The only time I make rice though is when I make ahi poke or chili. Please do not call chili with rice "Obama's chili"... people were eating it like that well before Obama was going to Punahou.

I got a Zoji rice cooker similar to the one that sappy posted. Only beef is the Brown Rice doesnt quite get done enough, as mine does not have the brown rice setting.

But that thing is way better than stove method.

I also had a little 15 dollar cheapy Yan Can Cook Aroma I bought at BX while I was in korea. It did the job better than stove, but not as good as elephant.
