Nadal going to face Youzhny in the next round. Should be an interesting game, they are 3-3 on h2h all of which are on h/c accept 1 clay match exactly 2 years ago which Nadal won comfortably 6-0,6-2.
Any thoughts/predicted result??? |

Nadal should win, but perhaps lose his first set of the clay court season.

Nadal shouldn't have any problem with Youz on clay. A pedestrian 6-3 6-4 win for Nadal.

Youzhny is playing well this year, but Nadal should win comfortably.

Youzhny beat Nadal the last 2 times on very fast hard courts. (Dubai and the US Open) On clay it will be a different story as the ball will be jumping on Youzhny which will bother him. Also Nadal will be able to defend better on slower courts.

Youzhny and Berdych are the two players that have me most worried here - not so much their clay court play but the psychological effect they have on Nadal i.e the fact that they have beaten him before. So has Federer you may say! The last time Nadal played Berdych on clay was not that easy. Having said that I am really pleased this time that I cannot see the matches live as I would really hate to see a Youzhny "salute" again which really bugs me

Nadal wins 7-5, 6-2. Youzhny will fight for a set but not be able to gain the upper hand or win the important points to win it. He will become demoralized and go away a bit in the second.

i presume nadal will beat youzhny but IF he is not at his strongest, i just don't see how he is going to pull off the rome hat trick with the likes of djokavic and eventually federer up ahead. these are the fastest clay courts in europe. pistol pete even won here. this is where rafa's the most vulnerable. look at last year. fed had match points but pulled a yana novotna.
point is if nadal manages to go through youzhny, djokavic, and eventually federer, there is no way on earth someone will beat him 3 sets out of 5 in paris in a few weeks. |

Also if he does lose it wont be a fast court player who does it, unless maybe it is Federer, but it wont be a fast court player who is not Federer like Youzhny.

Well the player has to be attacking Nadal to beat him. I think he's gotta feel comfortable with clay courts as well. Kuerten in his prime is the perfect example of a player that could beat Nadal on clay. I don't see anyone like that now days.
