Default Congrats to Fed.

As a Nadal fan I tip the cap to Fed. He waited a long time to pull this off. Fed was too good, Nadal didnīt reply. So I congratulate him. He has a chance at the French. But revenge will be on Rafaīs mind and itīs best of 5. So I have that on my side. OK trolls (Vive, federerfanatic, Ace Of Hearts, Fedfan 2007, etc.), line up your abuse, let it rip.

Fed played well. Nadal looked a little tired from the end of the second set. He was hitting much shorter with gave Fed a chance to step in and hit his forehand. Feds backhand was much more consistent today.

Very respectable post. It's nice to a Nadal-fan not making excuses and accepting a defeat.

Nadal looked happy to get out of there. I expect Nadal's intensity to pick up at the French Open. Right now, it looks like it was a mistake for Nadal to play here.

Yes it is good to know these two are still in the top 2 places but come on I can remember Fed losing to Andy Murray in HIS surface - didn't mean he was out for good - Nadal will be back- for all we know he may have an old inury playing up

Nice post - I respect you didn't come out with excuses. I like both Fed and Rafa. This match was Fed's best play on clay in two years... I still think Rafa will win the French.

Should Nadal switch to a larger frame???

SHANKS
Fed: 1 FH, 2BH= 3 total
Nadal: 4 FH, 1 BH = 5 total

WINNERS
Fed: 15 FH, 2 BH= 17 total
Nadal: 5 FH, 5BH= 10 total

BAGELS
Fed= zero
Nadal= one

Reports of Federer's demise were GREATLY exaggerated! I was one of the few who truly kept the faith throughout!

Well, you can only say Nadal made a mistake entering Hamburg in retrospect. Decisions are made ex-ante, not ex-post. What if he had won Hamburg, then went on to win the FO? That would be a complete sweep of the clay-court season, quite possibly the most amazing thing ever done on clay (only Borg's accomplishments would rival). Look at it from Nadal's perspective, with an eye to history.

Risk-reward relationship.

Although I think this match helps Federer vs. Nadal on clay in the future, I think it will probably benefit both going into the FO. Federer feels like he's more back in form (I still don't think he's in AO form), and Nadal has a huge weight lifted from him, of an 81-match win streak.

Also, others have suggested that maybe Nadal is making a statement about the importance of the clay-court Masters by playing in all of them. Relating to the whole thing with trying to remove MC from Masters status. That would certainly be commendable.

You have to give him credit for not pulling out of anything on just a little bit of fatigue, or whatever (last year, after the Rome final, when Nadal and Federer pulled out of Hamburg due to the 5+-hour match, that was very understandable).

does it really matter that nadal lost? he won the others and got to this final, its still a big boost to his atp score. now its time for those fair weather fed fans to crawl back.

I was surprised that the two sets he won were 6-2, 6-0
