Default Coria Out for Rest of Year

Sorry if this was already posted; I don't have time to look at all the posts. But the ATP just reported:

"This year’s Roland Garros runner up GUILLERMO CORIA has remained in Barcelona since undergoing arthroscopic on his right shoulder one month ago. Coria’s rehabilitation is expected to keep him out of competition for the remainder of the 2004 season."

So someone else will get his Houston spot, I reckon.

And Guga just had hip surgery as well. Hope they both recover quickly.

I've also been a bit surprised at the Davis Cup results. I'm not surprised that the USA is about to clinch the tie, but I am surprised that France could defeat Spain. If Ferrero doesn't win tomorrow, the pressure is all going to be on Spain --and on Nadal/Robredo.

The fact that Ferrero is struggling doesn't surprise me, but Moya should have won that opening rubber.

Vamos, Espana!

Go USA!

Moya, just lost last week against a junior ranked around the 300 ATP spot, and it also makes several weeks (should I better say monthes?) that Moya didn't post any convincing results, so it is not a surprised that he lost against PHM who has great game and stamina, and who after a long period of injury, starts to come back and obtained recently some pretty goods results for him, imrproving his confidence.

I'm surprised that Ferrero has been chosen to play against Santoro, because tough Ferrero is the best player of the team when he is at 100%, he has a really bad year and is far to play his A-game, so perhaps that ferrero is currently the only one spanish player that can be defeated by Santoro on clay, I would just like to remind that although Santoro is a player that I like and who can give troubles to many many ATP players, he has a big problem to play against the heavy topspin spanish style of play, his career record on clay against that kind of players is horrible, and any Spanish player ranked in the ATP top 80 should pretty easely defeat Santoro on clay without needing to play at 100%, so Robredo or Nadal IMHO, would have been better choices than the current Ferrero who currently is mentaly and physicaly very far from his best.

If I was the french Cap. wouldn't be my choice to play the first single against spain, and if I was the Spanish Cap. my choice wouldn't be the current Ferrero! Just my poor 2 cents, and of course I know that I might be wrong, and that the tennis knowledges of Forget and Arrese is way above than mine (not even in the same planet).

I realize what you are all saying, but let's just back up a bit and acknowledge that a guy - Guillermo Coria - who can no longer play this year has already qualified for the event.

Better that someone more healthy than he is takes his place.

Otherwise it would be very dull.

Too bad for Coria, he'll still be like #6 by years end, or #7, so still a good year after having to quit only slightly past half-way and still be that high in the rankings.

Hopefully, Spain wins and faces the US in the finals. I like the way a lot of the Spanish players play. And hopefully Moya's struggles will mean one of the lower Spanish players will get a chance to play singles, like Verdasco or Almagro, but more likely Nadal.

Let's hope recovers and will play great again.. same goes for GUGA!!

I think we have a good group of players competing for Masters Cup this year.. Already qualified Fed, Roddick, Hewitt, Gaudio (wild card), and potentially Henman, Moya, and potentially Safin and Agassi.. If Moya can up his level than we got pretty good matchups, maybe the best in recent years...
