Why in the world would he only play doubles and not singles in this tournament??

He's playing with Jiri Novak... so, chances to win the tournament are good.

Link show that they lost in the semis to the dudes that won the thing.

It's possible it was a last minute descision and he was too late to enter the singles draw. Or it could be that his singles ranking is too high to play in the challenger.
