if you ever carefully look at how roddick hits the ball, he basically hits it really hard by pushing out causing the ball to be really fast at first but then die down. like nadals forehand, he hits the ball then pulls on it, causing it to be fast and have a lot of spin, so when it hits the ground, it'll kick up at the opponent.
