Default My Serves (video)

Hi, these are my serves. All of them are videos of my first serve, except for that last video. In actuality, though, I wouldn't hit my second serves that hard in a match. I would hit it more softly. Also, I purposely toss the ball a bit to the right because my instructor told me that for now, it would be easier for me.

Thanks!

Do you think my left arm should go higher and straighter? It looks like I'm also bringing it down too quickly. Thanks for all the help!

If you were wondering, that was my cat who was running around, chasing after the balls

Lol @ kittah.
Yeah, I do think you should work more on your toss. Looks like you're releasing too soon.
Can definitely work on that technique to add more power, but I think you should listen to your coach first of all, as he/she has most likely seen more of you than those videos show.

I can't see clearly from that video, but from what I can tell you're not really getting full extension. The ball toss is a little too low, you need to throw it up more, and get better extension. It looks a little wierd, probably because you aren't getting the elbow leading look that the top club level players = > professional players have. Your toss looks a little misleading at times also. Try tossing from the shoulder rather then the hand, it'll help with your consistency alot more. Plus you might try releasing your toss a little higher, it'll help a ton. Other then that, you seem to be getting the basics down.

That's just basic stuff really. If you really want to add pop, you're going to have to coil alot more then that, drop the right shoulder alot more, and bend your hip and legs to get extra snap and thrust foward more. Tossing a little farther out in front wouldn't hurt either.

i don't think it is a good idea to hit down into a net won't work on the court.

Yeah, it's definitely not the same, but I didn't want to lose any balls, and my neighbors don't like it when balls go into their yard

The net is actually quite far off, so if the ball hits around halfway across that net, then on the court, it might be in or sort of close.

looks pretty good. i would say your racket face is way too open, and you are opening up too much before contact. but good

Theres no arm extension at all. Looks like your bending your body too much to the left and to make that worse your elbow looks bent. But thats all i payed attention to lol. How long have you been playing for?

Job Well Done!

Imma try to make this as simple as possible...the only problem i have is that your motion AFTER striking the ball on your serve seems to be kinda chaotic and messay. Also, please move your dog before-hand...then again, if your first serve would have hit nailed him, it would have made for a far more interesting video than the one already posted.

i suggest using your WHOLE arm when you make contact. looks like ur just using your shoulder. try to "explode" up into the air. it adds power and pace.

It's a cat. His name's Hooka . We didn't know Hookah was a drug until after we got him. The person who found him on the streets named him after a restaurant called Ba Hooka. He's 2 years old, and I'm pretty sure he's an orange tabby. Favorite activities: Pouncing on feet, catching lizards and grasshoppers, chasing after balls, lying in the sun, running all over my Dad's windshield just to get him mad. .

Amen. He's great. He always stands right in front of the net when I serve. It's sort of like his headquarters. He never lets anyone touch that net while he's around. He tries to chase you away. lol

don't worry hookah is not a drug. it's just a water pipe that you smoke flavoured tobacco out of. apple, cherry, pear, etc.

Wait, are you saying I should use a platform stance? Or that I should just keep my feet flat?

Incorrect. Now I dont remember what Tiki's serve looked like exactly, but watch good servers, nobody's feet are on the ground throughout the serve...
