That is probably the best tweener shot you will ever see. Ever.

Wow. That's even better than the famous over-the-shoulder shot he hit against Corretja at the '95 US Open.

Thats a good shot, but i dont like the guy too much, hated his waving and kissing to the crowd, and his tennis and personality on court was not exciting IMO...

The guy he was playing, Chris Woodruff, was an NCCA singles champ (1993) out of U of Tennessee. He won the Canadian Open in 97 beating Guga in the finals (which was a big tourney; a 128 draw) and he was doing really well and climbing in the rankings (reached # 29)....In late 1997, he was kicking field goals just goofing around (with Rick Leach, I think) and completely blew out his left knee....and missed the entire next year. When he came back in 1999, his ranking was around 1300 so he had to play qualifiers. He was about 26 or so at the time. He was never the same after the knee injury. I think he is a coach at UT now.
The thing I recall about the 99 RG is how Medvedev completely collasped after crushing AA in the first two sets. To his credit, AA hung in there down love 2, didn't tank for once and found a way to win. Medvedev choked that match away big time. Last edited by Sean Dugan : 08-26-2007 at 06:59 PM. |
