The guy took novak djokovic to two tiebrakers and played awesome tennis in davis cup. What do you people here think about his future. Maybe top 20 in 2008 ? I surely thought he deserved to be much better ranked watching him play against djoko on slowest clay and doing s&v all the time ..

with an 8-18 record in 2007, i VERY much doubt it lol. but in regards to your statement, yes he is a very talented player and a breathe of fresh air being a serve and volleyer but check out the link to his record for the year. his results and remarkably inconsistent and he can't seem to put together a stream of steady wins. maybe sometime in a few years, when he is a little more experienced, he might have a top 40 showing, but i doubt he'll ever really make it much higher than that.

I know all this but agains 23.000 people cheering agains him he really deserved at least a set if nt two against djoko who is nr3. Maybe ghe is growing to become better. His forehand is sharp, bachand insecure and good but long form time to time, but his vleys and all around power/movemnt is what surprised me

its not all about strokes though. at that level, everyone has great strokes and can hit the ball great in general. but its just whats inbetween the ears, and from what i've seen, guccione can't keep it together up there. he tends to wither away quickly and doesn't have a killer fighting spirit which is what gets so many "decent" ball strikers to the top of the game. if you ask me, thats the main thing that guc is lacking.

He supposedly has a top 5 serve behind Karlovic and was broken several times by Donald Young.

Not that I've seen him play, just going by Andres Guazalli's posts and his height.

His serve has the potential to be as damaging as Karlovic's or Isner's. However, at the moment he is still a bit too inconsistant. If he can overcome that he'll win a lot of matches, despite his groundstrokes - just as Wayne Arthurs did (his ground game is a lot better than Arthurs was, but his isn't as mobile). On that point, his big problem and the reason why he does well on clay (he has a win over Guillermo Canas on clay) is that he can be slow to get into good position on his groundstrokes. When his serve is firing it isn't such a problem but, when that goes off, even slightly, he can't fall back on his ground game. Clay, instead of hurting his game due to the slower pace, actually gives him a bit more time to prepare for his groundstrokes. He might serve less aces but he'll still win a lot of cheap points and have a lot of easy put-aways plus time to hit those shots well. Also, the heavier balls that are generally used on clay give him a bit more control on his groundstrokes.

Well i remember these two player fought out a really good match in Adelaide Open in Australia at the start of the year. Novak really had to earn his win and in the end as usual was just to consistent in the end. Chris G has some really nice touches at the net, he has deceptive power from the back..but it just not consistent enough due to his S&V approach to tennis. He reminds me a lot of Wayne Aurthurs from Australia very versatile lefty serve, power ace,slider,kicker..just with a better baseline game. I definitely could see him in the top 30-40.

The guy has HUGE groundstrokes, he made Djokovic look weak. Problem is his consistency, decision making on court and court coverage. If he could get those things improved he could be pretty easily in the top 50. He took Davydenko to five sets in wimbledon this year and has a 2-0 record against former world no.1, Juan Carlos Ferrero. So he definitely has the potential, but many players have had that and not done a whole lot in their careers.

The guy has a MASSIVE serve. Serving first serve bombs, averaging 130 mph. But since... I don't know, May, he hasn't been hitting the same. Lower %, slower, less aces. Everything got worse.

In fact, his Australian Open match was a serve fest, and his USO match was a serving joke.

Let's compare his AO match vs other Slams

Australian Open:

1st Serve %: 131 of 206 = 64 %
Aces: 45 !!!
Double Faults: 3
Winning % on 1st Serve: 106 of 131 = 81 %
Fastest serve: 225 km/h (140 mph)

Wimbledon:

1st Serve %: 57%
Aces:14
Double Faults: 2
Winning % on 1st Serve: 75%
Fastest serve: No info

1st Serve %: 64 %
Aces:23
Double Faults: 5
Winning % on 1st Serve: 83%
Fastest serve: No info

U.S. Open:

1st Serve %: 92 of 143 = 64 %
Aces: 9
Double Faults: 4
Winning % on 1st Serve: 65 of 92 = 71 %
Fastest serve: 132 mph.
Averaged 119 in his FIRST serve. That's Fed's territory, not Chris'

I can assume he's having shoulder problems. I don't know. Something is wrong

anyone from aus will know of guccione... he's been around for a little while, hasn't really ever looked like breaking the top 50.

Did you see him pretty much get owned by Donald Young at the Open. He does not deserve to be ranked higher than he is.

huge left-handed serve but that is pretty much it. if you get him in a baseline rally then his groundstrokes are too erratic and his movement is too slow to be competitive.
