Funny - when I was trying to move out of my Manhattan apartment last week, the flat was full of Korean newspapers, for some reason. I cannot read Korean at all, but I can look at the pictures and also the papers are wonderful for wrapping dishes or absorbing spills.

The China Daily newsapaper is no longer being delivered to my house. I do not know why it was ever delivered to me.

Writing down thoughts is so underrated, even when it's done all teary-eyed.

I'm going to make onion ice cream quite soon. For when life isn't bitter enough.

When returning to the East Bay from Stanford, there are several routes and bridges to choose from. It is important to check the traffic patterns.

I keep telling the satellite navigators the same thing, but do they even listen anymore these days? You just put a large bag of ice in the car and some carbonated water and just drive around for hours and enjoy your time of peace and rest.

Rock Strongo, this sounds like a public service warning about becoming a Mario Tennis addict. I hope you had fun watching the Swedish Open, and that you saw some good tennis. Are you stuck in a hostel for the night?
When I was in college, I stayed at a hostel in Galway, Ireland. While visiting Dublin, I decided to catch a train to Galway for a quick visit. At the Galway train station, a young woman asked if I wanted a place to stay at a good price. She led me to what turned out to be a hostel, and a dingy, unkempt one at that. I have stayed at a hostel in Sweden before, and the Swedish hostel was a five star hotel in comparison. As I was leaving, the only person staying there, a guy from Derry, talked me into staying. We hit some pubs, and then some more pubs, chatted with some Irish girls, and then hit more pubs. At the some point, he decided to tell me his story. He knew a few things about an IRA robbery and was told to leave Derry, so the police couldn't talk to him. He had no time to prepare, did not know when he could return, and did not know where he would go. The man had just left Derry the previous day. Based on his detailed account, I believed him. We went back and crashed. About an hour later, two old guys reeking of cigarettes and whiskey stumbled in. One guy took the bed next to mine. I moved my backpack so he didn't trip. He yelled at me, "You think I am a thief? You think you are better than me? You had better sleep with your eyes open!" His rant went on much longer than these words. The man was completely incoherent and fell onto his bed. The stench of whiskey and cigarettes was so strung I had to open the window. I could hear what sounded like drunk Irish school girls walking past, singing and yelling. It must have been three in the morning. At about five in the morning, the old drunken man next to me got up, probably to go to the bathroom. He immediately collapsed on me. I yelled, "Hey, what the **** are you doing?" and pushed him away. I could see the guy from Derry by the door at the feet of my bed. He jumped up from his bed while pulling a big knife from next to him. I yelled, "It's okay, he's just drunk." I went to the bathroom and got dressed. I grabbed my backpack and told the guy from Derry that it was good meeting him, but I can't sleep and want to take a train back to Dublin. He said that he understood. I had to wait a few hours on a cold morning for the train. There was a little place for coffee and snacks. I got some coffee and pulled out a book. A very drunk guy walked in. He was young and looked like he had been partying all night. He took one big swig from his cup of coffee, and vomited a few liters of his night onto the floor. The stench made me want to vomit. I hurried out and waited for the train in the cold morning. Rock Strongo, I hope that your night went better.

^^ Nah, the people in Båstad are too posh for hostels. I got stuck in Malmö and had to sleep at a friend's house whose guest bed wasn't exactly comfortable.
I also have a picture with the mafia hitman of umpiring! (or Lars Graff)

On July 5, 1946, French designer Louis Reard unveils a daring two-piece swimsuit at the Piscine Molitor, a popular swimming pool in Paris. Parisian showgirl Micheline Bernardini modeled the new fashion, which Reard dubbed "bikini," inspired by a news-making U.S. atomic test that took place off the Bikini Atoll in the Pacific Ocean earlier that week.

In Norway visiting my dad (or actually in my room as I'm tired) and noting the absence of attractive women... Haven't seen one. Sweden is much better because it has my dream girl.

Mr. Strongo, I have been to several cities in Norway, and there were many beautiful women. You need to go to Karl Johans Gate in Oslo on a Friday or Saturday night.
My first time in Oslo, I went to Karl Johans Gate on a Friday evening. Two things caught my attention: there were many beautiful women hanging around, and it seemed like half the people were carrying Coke bottles. I went up to a group of young women with Coke bottles, and asked, "Why is everyone walking around with Coke bottles?" One of them answered, "We put vodka in them. This way we can drink and the police leave us alone." She gave me a bottle and asked if I wanted a drink. It was a good night.

For some reason, I am only interested in tennis and track events at this year's Olympics.

The final km of the women's bicycle road race was pretty good stuff. Also, the beach volleyball has been interesting.

It's appalling how they disrespect distance races (like the 5000m, 10000m, 3000steeple, not to mention the marathon) by only showing the first and last lap, while they show an hour or more of all the sprint rounds, or of shooting, archery, swimming, gymnastics, rowing and what not -- but they can't show a 15 minute long distance race completely

Whitewater Kayaking...it's just crazy! A 44-year-old woman is in 2nd place right now. How can you train for this when every stream is different and they don't get to see where the gates are set until the raceday???

Yup, I've been loving this. The other day the guy (some East Euro name like Savcik) blazed a record in the first run, by had several hundred penalty points in the second and crashed out! )
