Default Am I crazy to like this racquet - Wilson N5 Force

I seem to be having some racquet issues (perceived). With my new Speedport Black my game is getting more inconsistent I feel like I am regressing.

I picked up a Wilson n5 Force 98 (did not like the 110) and really liked the way I hit the ball. It is very different from any frame I have tried in the past. It's very light and head heavy. My teenage son says it's an "old mans" racquet.

I'm a 3.0-3.5 player with a flat FH and a slice BH. I'm primarily a counter puncher and like for opponents to hit with pace for me to work with. Lately softballers and pushers are killing me. With the Black I'm spraying balls all over the place. The n5 Force seems to provide more punch and depth on the ball.

So, am I crazy to like this racquet?

You're not crazy.. play with whatever racket you are comfortable with. I actually don't think it's an old man's racket. The headsize (98") is too small for it to be an old man's racket imo. It's just pretty light and headheavy, but that doesn't mean it's an old man's racket.

no.. different strokes for different folks.

Same goes for racquets.

Maybe you found one that fits you like a glove?

Maybe it's the honeymoon effect of using a new/different racquet.

Whatever the case is, if it works for your game, don't be too proud to use it.

You think you're crazy to like a racquet that doesn't make you spray balls like the Speedport Black does?

No problem

I demoed the N5 against a ball machine today and compared it to my Black that I have now added about 6 gram of lead to the head. With the N5, I was able to ease up on my swing and still get good depth. I did find that with serving, I had to swing a the ball a little higher because for whatever reason (head heavy maybe) I was coming over the ball more and netting a lot of serves.

I have a doubles match in the morning and may play a set with each. Hopefully my PITA partner will not notice my racquet switch and experimentation during the match.

If you have a slower swing speed or shorter strokes, using this type of frame really helps. Everybody isn't an under 25 yo player.
