I don't know when all these match clips became avaliable. I just happen to chance upon them. On closer inspection there are other great clips also as you say. I have edited two more clips into my original post, but I don't know what years they come from. Does anyone know the years for these French Opens?

Great find noeledmonds. Thanks. The Laver-Okker match was the semifinal of RG 1969, won by Laver in four. Great rallys here end of a bagel second set and begin 3rd. The Santana-Laver match must be the RG semifinal of 1961, which the later RG winner Manolo won in the fifth, after being behind 1-4 in the fourth. The Okker-Newcombe match must be the quarterfinal of 1969, which Okker won over Newk. The doubles of Hoad and Rosewall i cannot identify, must be an old amateur match from the mid 50s or a pro match from the 60s. On the INA side they have also a professional competition from around 1965.

I wish I could download these.

Btw, the level of tennis is great. From my 'experience' in watching older matches there is very little difference in the level of tennis between the 40s and the 70s (I am more hard-pressed to comment on the pre-WWII tennis). Also notice how big the serves are - that's no joke.

Of course I'm mostly going on the elite matches such as these, which is a limitation.

Laver and Rosewall would be beasts today. Roger in his current form wouldn't take a peak Laver to a fifth set.

WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!

What type of camera did they use to film this!?!?!
Santana and Laver were both LEFT HANDED!
They're righties in this video, which means the court is the wrong way round or ...

Someone please explain this to me.

On a lighter note: In the Santana-Laver match there is shown an incident, which Laver mentions in his book 'Education of a tennis player'. Santana fell and obviously sprained his ancle in the 4th set. Laver ran towards him, and helped him up and walked around the court with the seemingly in pain Santana. But this was really the turning point of the match. Santana came out smoking and put Laver to sleep. Laver writes jokingly, he should have tripped on Santana's foot for good, instead of helping him up.

Great find and what caught me as well was the massive crowd. Looks like football game and the line judges comfortably seated in chairs. LOLS

I don't think anyone will mind if you outline it in a post and quite a few of us might really appreciate it. Much easier than having to reply to everyone's emails.

someone has spent a lot of time and money trying to stop people downloading these videos, it would be terrible if they closed this back door.

One of you email me, then you can email thenenxt person and so on.
