I have been googling lead tape, and a few threads came up from this forum.
I admit I get a bit lost being so new to customizing my racquets, so please bear with me a bit. My aeropro drive + is 5pt HL, and I would like to try to test it out at being 3pt hl instead. So I would need lead tape right? How do I figure out how much I need to do this, and can I do this while increasing the sweet spot at the same time? I used the RacquetTune app to try it, but i'm not sure I did it right. It said to use 29g at 7 o'clock, and 19g on the bottom of the handle. |

Hmm, that's nearly 2 ounces of extra weight, to make it more head heavy you just need to add a little bit to the head of the racket, there is no need to add more at the handle. Adding weight at the handle when adding weight in the head balances out what you have added in the head to maintain balance. The most common places to add weight in the head are 3,9 & 12 o'clock, not sure about 7, that would seem to be imbalanced unless you put some at 5 o'clock too. There are a ton of threads in the racket forum about customising racket weight.

Tennis Warehouse has a page on customizing with lead: http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/lc/customize.html
But you can also easily customize your racquet "by feel". Simply bring the lead tape and scissors to the court. Add strips around the handle just above the handle to in effect make your racquet less "head light". Keep adding until the racquet seems to be "too heavy" or "too head light". Just strip off the last layer of tape to go back to where you had it. (And you could also play around by adding tiny bits of tape on the throat, at 3/9 or 12 if you want to see how those effect the feel of the frame if you feel like you added too much above the handle.) In one hitting session, you can make quite a few changes and really feel the differences, although it will ultimately take playing an entire match to see if you like the result. |

Thanks for the help guys! I'm starting to get better at tennis, and I think the APD+ was a mistake. I hit too hard, and it adds too much power. But I already paid for it, so i'm going to keep trying to make it work lol.
