Hi,

I read all the postings and now I am a bit confused. What racket did Nikolay Davydenko use to win the Sony Ericson? Is it the Prince Ozone Tour Pro or something else? Is it the next generation racket or is it Prince's current racket?

Someone just provide the racket - model, weight, length. I already know that it is 18 X20 string pattern. What is the head size?

Thanks!

It's most likely the "Ozone tour PRO" just because of the 18 x 20 string pattern. Can't comment on the weight, length, etc. obviously because you can't tell from a picture.

To clear up some confusion, the ports are not at the same position on both sides, which i also assumed at first. So you can't tell what model it is based on Tan's observation...the additional white space depends on which side you're looking at . Why? because the ports need to alternate on opposite sides, otherwise you can't have a straight string pattern.

This brings up an interesting point though, is there an optimal side that the racquet should face? since the racquet is obviously not symmetrical like most other non-port racquets are.

I suppose it may have a minor effect but when people are customizing racquets in tenths of ounces, it makes me wonder.

Cool

umm, I get your point. So I have no idea why prince say that Ozone Tour MP is the racquet choice of #3 Nikolay Davydenko. The string pattern doesn't match it's spec. -->> http://www.princetennis.com/tennis/f...ProductId=1711

thanks for the detailed reply...I should have figured that the market has already spoken on the matter!!

Continuing with the guessing on head size, Davydenko's racquet head looked HUGE at Miami --- I'm going with 107" !!!

his racket could be the ozone tour team 18*20 (310gr, similar stiffness) with lead, similar to the o3 tour but with 18*20 string pattern.

You can't base what pros use on company websites, heck Head still lists everyone as using the fxp models, it must be hard remembering which pj goes with which pro.

As for the racket, if it were a prototype prince would mark it that way, they always do (ie capriati's diablo, Blake's hybrid tour, the new sp graphites). According to davydenko's interview he said the racket was the same just with 18x20 strings. Granted his are leaded to all heck and extended but the new prince frames are similar to babolat in that the are so physically distinctive you can't pj a diablo and pass it off as a tour, his old racket might have been a pj 03 tour, but there was no 03 version with a tight pattern. Now for the real big bummer, even if he wanted backup rackets and have the racket tecs tinker with them, the ozone pro tour isn't for sale in Miami yet, none of our stores have it, and only one has it available for demo, so he was really out of luck if it broke.

Just my input as a disgruntled racket shopping Miami resident and recent born again Prince fan.

They probably just haven't updated his information on their site yet. I mean, he was using the 16x18 one. It is a very recent switch to the 18x20, clearly.

Yes he would have it strung fresh for every match and practice sessions.

i would say yes he had it restrung after every match. No way he could take the chance of it lasting two or 3 matches in a row with same string if he liked it that much.

Either that or he used 15 gauge weed wacker string to aid with durability.
i have not heard some one say weed wacker in about 10 years. thanks dude you made my day.

I heard the Mary Carillo say that he was using the same racket and the same string job for the whole tournament, and that he only had one. Hard to believe he made it through Roddick and Nadal without breaking a string that way, but that's what she said.

I think Carillo was just not being precise with her words --- more likely the use of the term "string job" wasn't referring only to the one original stringing, but also to include subsequent jobs. That is, the same string setup each time the racquet was strung.

Here's another pic of the magic racquet.

It's amazing the buzz that has been created from him using 1 racquet for the whole tournament. It's downright Public Court kind of stuff and I absolutely love it. Enough of these dilletantes stringing up 10 racquets every day in plastic bags, etc. Stick your head out the window and yell "I'm mad as hell and I'm not gonna take it anymore!!!" Sorry, I stole that line from the wonderful movie "Network" Apologies to the late, great actor Peter Finch.

He had the same strings for all 6 matches. Here is what he said.

Davydenko quickly became comfortable with a new racket model he tried for the first time at Key Biscayne. He used the same racket in all six matches.

“I have only one,” he said. “Surprising I didn’t break a string. Warm up and play match, warm up and play match, every match, and I finish with the racket.

“I’m going to keep forever this racket.”
