Calling All SP DG Owners -- Question.

I received my DG a couple of days ago and just now started the assembly process. Here's the question... the bearing pivot is off-center in relationship to the opening in the base. It does not rub the base at all, but is very noticeably off center. How did this look on yours?

I have a call in to Steve, but would like to assemble everything tonight, if possible. I will hold off on putting everything together until I confirm that this is OK. Any thoughts? Fit & finish is really excellent otherwise, so I am not sure whether this is a glitch or not.

BTW, I ordered the upgraded clamps (same as Aria and Opus) and these are definitely a big step up in their construction, action and precision. Glad I did it. Another poster said he got these as OEM clamps with his Maestro. If this is SOP, then this is the lockout machine to beat for the $$ IMO.

Other than my questions on the bearing pivot position, I think I will be a happy camper. Thanks!

In any case I really like these clamps.

Sorry can't help with the alignment but I believe others here do have the DG so they should be able to help you.

Btw with those clamps and constant pull that has to be one hell of a machine.

Well, I only knew about the option of upgrading the clamps because of you proken7. Thanks so much. The regular clamps are really pedestrian compared to the newer/upgraded ones. As far as I am concerned, you got the best bang for the buck with your machine.

Just the clamps themselves. Diamond dusted, smooth roller action, much better finish. Nothing particularly wrong with the original ones (which I'll keep as back ups) but the quality, look and feel of the upgraded ones is apparent and worth an extra $150 IMO.

In case this can help someone down the road... it turns out that SP modified/improved the internal metal base of the DG and, because there are no clearance issues, did not create a new mold for the plastic cover of the base. So other than an off-center look when the table is not mounted, there are no problems. Smooth as butter and perfect appearance once the table is installed.

Can you order new clamp bases as well, such as spring assisted ones on the Maestro?

The clamp bases are also spring assisted on the DG so this never came up. If you are talking about ordering for another machine, better talk to Steve (800) 662-1809.
