John, seriously, I think I'd buy a new one this time. The earliest models had some longevity problems. The problem was fixed apparently a few years back. You really don't want to get hold of one of the earlier ones, and I think Wise's warranty makes it a good idea to put out the $600 for the new one. I have one, and really like it. It takes a few dozen string jobs to get used to if you don't already have an electronic machine, but it does speed up the stringing a bit after a few rackets.

Thanks for the thoughtful feedback. I guess I am wondering how I justify $500 on my 65-70 string jobs a year. I do like toys and my favorites are electronic and sports related, which the 2086 is both.

John, I know what you mean...but, you are still saving at least $10 per racquet and the Wise head makes stringing easier and more enjoyable and it's hard to put a value on that

That's one of the reasons I got it. People are impressed with an electric stringer.

The LAST thing I want is more stringing business. I string for personal satisfaction and the convenience it brings. I string friends racquets so my friends get better service and string/tension advice than they usually get at shops.

I charge $10 over the string so that I don't take the bread out of the mouth of people trying to make a living doing this. I would hate for the commercial stringers to go out of business.

My interest in the 2086 is based on it being FUN to have a fancy tool.
