Default Big Toe Joint Pain

I'm having pain in the large joint of both big toes. Tried taping them and that helped some. It seems to hurt when I'm playing and then throbs at night when I'm resting. I suspect it's from a pair of tennis shoes that fit too narrowly around my toes, I trashed the shoes and went with a broader shoe. I also may have over did it training with a jump roop for long durations.

I'm going to visit a foot doctor fairly soon.

Has anyone one else ever experienced Big Toe joint pain.

Please share!!

It sounds like you may be experiencing a little bit of turf toe. When jumping rope, the repetitive hyperextension on your big toes is the likely culprit. Usually a combination of rest and NSAIDs (advil/aleve/etc.) will lead to recovery. There is a tape job that can be effective, but it requires strips of mole-skin (might be available at your local drugstore).

The other poster mentioned gout, which might explain your pain. Do you have a family history of gout? Do you eat organ meats?

Gout -- the special affliction of humans and Dalmatian dogs.

I haven't ruled out gout. I've read up on it and I don't have all the symptoms. I never have pain when I sleep and the pain is not horrible, just when I play and sometimes it throbs when I'm resting. I'm not much into organ meats, I do eat oatmeal everyday. I read somewhere that a steady diet of oat and bran can contribute to gout.

Most of the pain is in the large joint of the big toe and goes down to the smaller joint.

I had a pair of Adidas that were very narrow in the toes that I think may have caused the problem. I also was jumping roop like a feign for about 3 months, worked up to about 20 minutes-3 to 4 times a week. 20 minutes is a long time on a jump roop. It didn't bother my feet and then gradually the pain started and worsen, now I'm staying off the court. I trashed the Adidas and now wear a wider shoe, that is much stiffer.

I'm fine as long as I don't play tennis.

Mole-skin, how do you wrap that around the large joint of the big toe?? You can put tape on the big joint of the big toe, but not around it.
