How much trouble do you guys have in finding a good oversize racquet?

I've been looking for something that might be a good alternative to the POG OS (open string pattern only) I'm currently using and still in a 105-110sq head size, but there's almost almost nothing. The Donnay Pro One seems a bit iffy (can't demo as I live in Australia), the Avery is over-priced and there isn't much else to speak of.

I'll potentially be using an oversize Prince ozone four @ 54.

Poor you. It seems like it has been almost forever since you started your research for a new OS racquet and still unable to land on one.

You are still using your POG OS, yes? (So I can put that on the OP).

From my experience, no stick really stands out like a light in darkness. For me it ended up being more like choosing one, and then sticking with it. Nblade OS happened to be lucky cause I chose it and then stuck to it. After a while, I wasnt so anxious about racquets anymore. I had both fantastic and horrid play with it.

Hey why dont you list out everything you have tried thus far, and then maybe we can help you think up other sticks. For example, Diablo OS (not the XP type version). I gave mine to my little sister

Alafter,

I have been looking around for almost 3 years, on and off, to find an alternative to the POG OS. Admittedly, the key reason for it taking so long, is that I live in an area which has a very poor selection to choose from. That has dragged the search out quite a bit longer than it should have taken.

All I want is a couple of alternatives to the POG OS. It might be that I end up staying with the POG but I'd like to see if there was something available that would be a touch more mobile up at the net.

To date, I haven't tried many OS frames as there just aren't very many to choose from here. Have tried the Flexpoint Radical OS and found it to have a lot of power and good from the baseline but very slow through the air and at net. Tried the Prince 03 Speedport Red and found it far too light. There was good pop off the string-bed but no weight to my shots.

Haven't tried the TT Warrior OS but have tried the MP version (might have said before that I'd tried the OS but I meant the MP). Assuming there is a similarity between the two, in terms of how they swing, I found the MP anaemic in its response and far too light. After serving one game might shoulder was hurting due to the racquet's lack of weight.

Unfortunately, I missed out on the Prince 03 Tour OS. Looking at the specs I really think that could have come very close to being what I was looking for, once it had been cut down to a more manageable 27 inches. Unfortunately it's discontinued and the places which still sell it aren't shipping to Australia.

Flexpoint Radical OS
i-Radical OS
Prince 03 Red
Prince Speedport Red
Prince Original Graphite OS
Head Agassi Limited Edition OS
Babolat Aero Tour OS
Head Flexpoint Instinct Team

That's pretty well all of the oversize racquets I've been able to find in my area.

In a slightly smaller headsize (102sq), I have also tried the
Head FXP Radical Team (102sq)
Head FXP Prestige Team (102sq)
Volkl DNX V1 MP (102sq)
Head Flexpoint and Liquidmetal Heat (102sq)

You might try cutting an NXG OS down to standard and adding lead to taste. Similar to the POG OS, but a bit softer and more spin-friendly.

I had thought of that and did remember a number of your posts about the NXG OS. HOWEVER, what is putting me off trying it is my experience of the NXG MP. In all my years playing tennis I don't think I've ever hit with a racquet that was more lifeless in the upper hoop. The racquet wasn't strung overly tight (bit below mid-range I would say) and the string was respectable enough but every shot hit in the upper third of the string bed just died. Can't say there was much feel either. Good power and good spin but not much 'soul'.

I remember you saying that you were going to try the 03 Tour OS cut back to standard. Did you ever do that and, if so, what was the result?

His racquet had a crooked head, remember?

I just had a look at the post and it was the handle pallet that was incorrectly aligned, not the actual racquet head.

Looking at the options again, I think that the 03 Tour OS might be the best possible alternative. However, TW no-longer carries it. Do you know anyone reputable who does?

Thanks to a clubmate, I got the chance to hit with the NXG OS this afternoon. To put it mildly, I was monumentally disappointed. In all my time playing tennis I have never used a racquet that vibrated as much. I could literally feel the buzzing sensation all the way from my hand to my shoulder. Power was a bit more than I was expecting but control was absolutely shocking, despite the racquet being strung at 65lbs (that coming from someone who can string a POG OS at 40lbs, take a full, fast swing and still retain control). Serving was very good and I was able to generate a nice amount of slice. However, compared to the POG OS, there just wasn't as much movement through the air or off the court. Touch/feel was very ordinary.

Good news is that I can eliminate it from my (very small) list of options.

TRy my racquet. I know you keep saying open pattern, but you got to give my racquet a try.

The NXG OS is a nice stick, I own it and a 4 stripe POG and would play the NXG over the POG any day.

Unfortunately, your racquet has been discontinued and there is almost no chance I'll ever get to demo it. If there was I would most definitely try it, regardless of the string pattern. I wouldn't expect it to be what I was looking for but I'd still give it a try.

Darn. Well, I can only wish you somehow got your chance at it.

Shall we start with figuring out all the sticks available to you?
