Why don't more companies use a clamp system that exerts pressure like starting clamps

This would call for less adjusting of clamps. Also, as far as i've seen, the starting clamp I have doesn't damage the string.

Hmmmm, not sure. Well, I have a hunch. Apart from the extra pressure exerted, damage or no, you would have to replace them every one and a while. If you used your starting clamp as many times as your regular clamps, you'd find that the springs wear out much faster.

I see. But if they made it could be sold for the same price because of the convenience. I mean, I've never had slippage with my starting clamp. Lots of confidence there.

I see what you are saying, there just may be more to it. Having to squeeze the clamp open that many times could be problematic as well. It's really easy the way they are designed now to remove a clamp.

Yep, it'd be a major pain to use, especially if you have a tweaky wrist like me. I also think that if any slippage occured you'd have some interesting issues on your hand(s), as they woudln't be easily adjustable. Once you get gunk into a starting clamps' jaws, it's a bit of a hassle to clean.
