Default Best DC teams over the last 40 yrs

of coruse, DC is not what it was until professionalism and its heavy schedules dongraded it.probably, the last great teams that lasted long time in the memories were those of Australia 73 (Newcombe,Laver,Rosewall), USA 79 (Mac,Gerulaitis,Fleming,Tanner) and the great swedissh team of the late 80īs with Edberg,Wilander and Jarryd.France, with leconte,Forget and captain Noah surprised everybody else in 1991 and Spain has consistently engaged its best guns (Nadal,Ferrer,Verdasco,Ferrero,Moya) over the last decade, being probably the last truly great team of this wonderful, yet disparaged competition, which was the worldīs premier event well till the late 50īs or so.

Hey, don't forget the great Australian teams of the mid-1950's, headlined by Hoad and Rosewall.
The most exciting and publicly foolowed finals were in 1953 to 1955, when the Americans also had a great team with Trabert and Seixas.

I guess now Canada is in the big leauges with their win over top-ranked Spain.

Spain in the recent period, with Nadal and Ferrer. Australia around 10-15 years ago, with Hewitt, Rafter, Philippoussis. The Swedish teams of the 1980s (Wilander, Edberg, Jarryd, Nystrom etc.), the Becker inspired West German side of the late 1980s (Becker, Steeb, Jelen). The American side of the 1980s with McEnroe, McEnroe/Fleming and another singles player, the American side of 1992 with Courier, Sampras, Agassi and McEnroe.

Italian was the team of the 70īs, with Panatta,Barazutti,Bertolucci and Zugarelli led by Pietrangeli.4 consecutive finals, none of them on their home soil. Most unfortunated team ever.Just one title; had they played at least two finals at Rome, theyīd have won two more titles.

...AMOF, just the 79 US team of Mac and Gerulaitis could have beaten Italy at Rome.

Donīt forget Vitas had won that year the Italian Open, with a sensational win over Vilas in the final, and was considered, probably, the second best clay court player in the world ( he also reached the RG semis and the Montecarlo F, losing both times to Borg)

Strange coincidence.

The U.S.A. doubles team lost over the weekend to Serbia at 15-13 in the fifth set for the decisive match, while on the same day Canada won its doubles match against Italy at 15-13 in the fifth set in the decisive match of that series.

It looks like Canada has a chance for its first ever Davis Cuo win.

In a word: Nestor!
He can play with almost any doubles partner, as he has on the tour.
His current Davis Cup partner, Posposil, has a great serve, and they played great against Italy.
