A lot of people hate him cos a lot of people are a fan of Nadal and can't handle what he did to their boy.. I like him because he adds spice. But his forehand his DAMN UGLY. 8 career finals only 2 won says it all actually, the guy's a headcase.

He hits extremely flat and has the kind of forehand to dominate anything sitting up. He has had a few melt downs in the past when he is not on...defense is not his strong point.
I recall during one yr at RG when he was giving Nadal trouble, and one of the commentator said he had a very "agricultural" forehand. Lol |

He's got a bad attitude. That was totally inappropiate how he mocked Nadal. I will always root against him.

Nope, that's not what happend. Take a look at the youtube clip below. Nadal was being a bit condescending when he stopped right in the middle of his service motion to tell Soderling that he had new balls when Robin was obviously aware of this already because he went to go pick up his freshly strung racquet. But of course some people will only see what they want to see.

Hell, I'd be pissed too if I were Berdych and the crowd was acting like that the whole match, telling the crowd to shh is something i'm sure many, many others would do.

the name 'Soderling' reminds me of a slimey, slithering, lizardlike creature with claws and sharp teeth not unlike a gremlin.
BTW, kind of off topic but does anyone have that clip of chakvedtadze playing in a pro-israeli crowd and they kept booing her so she started yelling at the crowd after each point? I really wanna see that. I hope it's chakvatadze, might have been someone else. |

Well I like to watch him play indoors,he's at his best there by far.He has plenty of power although I don't think he varies his serve enough, his problem is that he isn't that great of a mover and yeah he's a headcase but he really has powerful groundstrokes and can be very dangerous if he's zoning.

Here's how I remember it.Nadal was about to serve when the empire asked Sodderling if he realizes that Nadal is serving with the new balls(cause players almost always take a newly strung racquet when the opponent is about to serve with the new balls)as Sodderling didn't change his racquet so the empire probably realized that Sodderling is unaware of the fact that Nadal was about to serve with the new balls. So Sodderling went for the newly strung racquet but Nadal didn't notice that and continued his serving motion and then stopped when he realized Sodderling wasn't there, then when Sodderling was finally ready to receive serve Nadal started his serving motion again but stopped in the middle and mockingly said to Sodderling "new balls" which ticked off Sodderling who then went on to mockingly imitate Nadal pulling out his wedgie.English is not my first language so hope I explained it to you well enough.

well. we have a saying in my country that goes around this: the worst blidness is the one of those unwilling to see! ps: the so called Nadal's Gentle nature and Humbleness.... i almost forgot that one... i think i will use it as a sig from now on!

Well, one thing's for sure. People will see what they want to see. Showing someone they are serving with new balls before the ball is actually struck will never constitute the crime of the century. Soderling is a jack..., and hasn't done anything since. The universe rewards our efforts!

In that incident with nadal I think it's fair to say one thing led to another and both had a part in what happened. Soderling did not realize that new balls were being used, went to pick up the racquet but without telling Nadal, Nadal mocks him, Soderling mocks back. If it was a conversation over coffee the misunderstanding probably would not have happened, but the championship was at stake.
