This is what mens tennis is these days. With so much depth, it just comes down to who is hot on a particular day ie. Nadal a few days ago, Calleri today.
Like others have posted, the great players are the guys like Agassi who week in and week out show up to play and do advance in the tournaments. I've been amazed at how many times it seemed like Agassi wasn't playing his best and still came though with the win. |

I've been saying that the bh dtl is the best shot in tennis. It's pretty, too often unused and that's another reason it's potent cuz the fh is so used and protected against and in general a huge majority of tennis players don't cover that side of the court as well defensively.Guga,Federer,Calleri and just about every other one hander uses this too rarely and unlike the fh dtl which is almost always defended agaisnt with a slice it is swiped at rather than sliced and people are much lazier becuase they can hit it open and lunge at it ,while on the fh dtl they must cross over to stretch and they compensate for this. The only downfall of this magnificent shot is that too often one handers don't recover as well as their 2 hand counterparts becase 2handers whether closed or open stance are almost always because of their rotation from the followthrough heading back to cover the rest of the court, while one handers stop their rotation and since thier leading shoulder is steady they don't move.Go dtl young man, go dtl.

Yo! 10s, every single post of yours oozes contempt for AA, with previous posts deleted by TW. I'm curious, why do you hate the guy so? Did he refuse to sign an autograph or something?

I'm thinking that I should change my name so as not to get confused with 10s. Anyway, it will be interesting to view AA's results in the next three slams. By the end of the U.S. Open, I think AA (and the rest of us) will have a better idea where he stands. I think it is way too premature to say he is finished. Just last week, he lost a tight three-set match to Federer, the acknowledged best player in the world. Otherwise, I believe AA has earned the right to choose when to retire. I believe that he will know when that appropriate time is. I also wonder why there is all this animosity for a pro tennis player. Oh well, I am new to these boards.

Yes, he lost. Yes, he was outplayed. Yes, there's a lot of depth in men's tennis today. BUT, the fact still remains that Andre Agassi is ranked in the top 5 in the world, still has about 5 more grand slam titles than any other player on the tour, has won grand slam titles on every surface, and continues to be in contention in every tournament he plays in. Just last week, people were falling over themselves voting for him as the one most likely to win Miaimi. He's #3 in the Champion's Race and he's reached the semi-finals at 2 of the 3 major tournaments in 2004 (Aussie Open, Indian Wells) -- results that Agustin Calleri would kill for. So ease up on the knee-jerk, over-the-top criticism, and the 20-20 hindsight analysis of his percentage play.
It would be laughable for anyone to suggest that Federer pack his bags and spend the rest of his life tending to his cow Juliette because he lost to Nadal in straight sets. Although Agassi is considerably older, in a way it is equally laughable for people to suggest he should retire on the basis of his loss to Calleri yesterday. Agassi is a great champion -- he has earned the right to retire whenever he damn pleases. Ramesh |

Agassi lost. Won't be the last time. Instead of over analyzing it, I agree with Ash above. He'll be back. Will win another masters series tourney (probably not another Grand Slam-does that mean he should retire?). Just shows the depth of the ATP.

most player that has won over agassi had played their best tennis ever, as coria said people that play agassi has to play above their own level. So to me agassi has suffer a litle bad luck meeting people who has played their best tennis ever

I taped the match and I think it was a combination of Agassi looking a little slow (tired?) and Calleri just playing beautiful, fantasitic tennis for almost the entire match. Man, that one-handed backhand is a thing of beauty. Right up there with Kuerten.
And Calleri came in with the right strategey - that he's not going to let Agassi jerk him around endlessly through each point but go for it on his first chance. Bravo Calleri! Here's to more one-handed-backhands!!! |

you are a miserable, jealous idiot. he was beaten by a guy who played the match of his life on one of his own sub-par days. every young player out there is gunning to beat him. it defines their careers. did you see him celebrating? you'd think he won the French or something. watch Calleri get destroyed in his next match because of the letdown he'll have. Federer was beaten worse the day before but i don't see you uttering a peep about that. |

I think most people would give there left $% to be number 5 in the world at any age. If Agassi is still having fun playing with the young guns let him. Connors played as an old man and was always in the top 10. I always enjoyed watching him. Whats the big deal if Agassi looses a match or two.
He may suprise the critics and win a major. |

You could get testicular cancer and have to lose it anyways, so I'd rather have a kick-@ss tennis career to show for it. What would your girlfriend do?
