Boy Singles:

Filip Peliwo(CAN) into the Boys Singles Semifinals. Hopefully reaches the final and gets third time lucky.

Girls Singles:

Both Francoise Abanda(CAN) and Eugene Bouchard(CAN) are into the semi's. Both at different sides....hopefully they can play the final against each other.

Don't know what happening to Canadian tennis to produce the surge of Milos Raonic, and Canadian Juniors doing well on the biggest junior tennis stages!

Things looking bright

Peliwo and Bouchard won their semis and made it to the final. Peliwo has made all 3 slam finals this year but lost the first two. He'll be playing the same guy (Saville I think) who beat him at the Aussie Open.

Francoise Abanda lost in 3 sets. But in terms of potential, she's the one to watch. She's only 15 (youngest in top 50 juniors) and already ranked 13th in the world.

Eugenie Bouchard made history Saturday by becoming Canada's first Grand Slam singles winner when she beat the Ukraine's Elina Svitolina 6-2, 6-2 in the junior girls' final at Wimbledon.

The 18-year-old from Westmount, Que., ranked 309 on the WTA list, will have the chance to earn another Canadian record when she and American partner Taylor Townsend play for the junior doubles title against Switzerland's Belinda Bencic and Croatia's Ana Konjuh.
Well done Eugenie!

Trivia: Oddly enough, two weeks before Wimbledon last year, I was playing next to her on an outdoors court at Uniprix Stadium in Montreal and I wished her good luck for Wimbledon. I guess I was a year early.

Best news would be if Bud by way of San Diego coaches Canadian pros, definitely improve their ratings.

It great thing that she won! She not the first girls singles Grand Slam champion from Canada!? I heard there was another long time ago.

I hope Peliwo beats Saville...Saville already has lasy years Wimbledon Jr title.

Saville beat Peliwo in this years Aussie Open final. And yes, Eugenie Bouchard is the first Canadian junior (boy or girl) to ever win a slam.

Woooo! Filip Peliwo wins the boy's final, after losing in the final in the previous 2 slams:

Quote:

Filip Peliwo made it a clean sweep for Canada in the junior singles finals at Wimbledon.

The 18-year-old from Vancouver beat Australia's Luke Saville 7-5, 6-4 on Sunday to win the boys' crown, a day after fellow Canuck Eugenie Bouchard won the girls' trophy.

The Westmount, Que., native also added the girls' doubles crown on Sunday as she and Taylor Townsend of the U.S. defeated Switzerland's Belinda Bencic and Croatia's Ana Konjuh 6-4, 6-3.

The wins gave Canada an unprecedented three titles at a Grand Slam event. Bouchard's victory in the girls' final on Saturday marked the first time a Canadian has won a singles final at any level at a major.

As a Canadian tennis fan, this is music to my ears. The future seems bright for tennis in this country. Hopefully these young players can continue to improve and embark on successful careers!

The Canadian Team is training at Jarry Park in Montreal for the Davis Cup encounter with South Africa, to take place there on Court Banque Nationale this coming weekend:

I checked with the facility, the team was already out at 10 am today on the courts. I guess they'll be around most of the week at this time and later.

Milos Raonic tweeted, asking for our support at the matches.

Go Canada!.

BTW, Filip Peliwo, the new US Open juniors champion, and the Wimbledon juniors champion (congratulations!!!), is going to be one of the training partners. Great experience for him.

So Peliwo is the first junior since Edberg to reach the finals of all four slams in a year.

Could this guy have a better future than Raonic?

^^^ From above website:

Ticket prices (incl. HST) range from $35-$150 (plus FMF and service charges) with a family 4-pack available for as low as $25 per ticket

Not too bad - I would have considered it, except I won't pay to see that pair of women.

Oh nice! Yeah as a reference Federer won Wimbledon juniors in 1998 and won his first slam in 2003. So five years. Thats how much time we should give Peliwo before expecting him to compete at the highest level. So yeah I expect to hear about him in 2017...if he does make it that far.

Federer was also 16 when he won the Wimby juniors, Peliwo is 18. Thats a real difference as by time Federer was 18, he had already been in the 4R of a slam.

Dont get me wrong, Peliwo has obvious potential, and he seems to be aware that junior success really isnt too significant for the future (Hey Donald Young). For him a good goal would be to try and make the Rogers Cup next year. Barring a meteoric rise he probably wont get a direct wild card, but I assume hed get a WC for qualies.

And about the Face-Off in Toronto, though I am in school in Montreal, I hope to be able to make it home to TO to watch Milos and Roddick. I have seen practically every top player in the past decade play (Andre, Hewitt, Nalby, Fed, Rafa, Djoker, Murray, Haas, Del Po) except my idol Andy

Peliwo works too hard out there to be anything other than a reasonably good top 100 player, but he might make some money. Good to add depth to the Canadian program. If he had a Raonic serve, things might be different.

Wow did we ever draw the short end of the stick. Good news is that Raonic can beat anyone on a fast surface, maybe not healthy Nadal but everyone else from Spain, so hopefully we can get a couple points and make it close.
