Hello,
I have just been informed that Stringway are introducing a new tool that will make stringing crosses a lot lot easier. I havn't actually used the tool yet, but have seen a video and I reckon it will totally change the way rackets are strung. From the video, it looks very easy to do the crosses which are very time consuming compared with the mains. It eliminates the chances of misweaves and you can pull the string through very quickly because there is no friction between the mains and crosses. There are 2 tools available which work exactly the same. The HD tool is for rackets with a high density stringing pattern and the LD is used for Low Density stringing patterns. Its also possible to do the first cross, because there is a long and a shorter side. If the 1st cross goes over and under 14 mains you use the long side of the tool, if the cross goes over and under 12 mains, you can use the short side. Here is the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjTYW3947JM What do you guys think of it? Last edited by 1012007 : 05-19-2009 at 12:50 PM. |

Actually, a very simple design and functionality. What about effecting tension on the mains with all of the repeated pushing? I do not know if it was the demo, but the stringer seemed slower than molasses. Stringing for the mentally challenged?

I doubt it would reduce the tension on the mains as they have already been tensioned, clamped and tied off (if doing 2piece)

Wow, looks like it could help me a lot with the poly string job. I wonder how much they are going to be.

I doubt I'd ever get that...will probably be more than it should because it's the the only one.
Not a bad idea though. In the video...the person was wearing a giant red balloon? |

I'm certain that I can still weave faster than the fastest of the users of this device.

Yeah, I think it was a bit slow too. Although, with a stiff string like a poly, and a bit of practice I think you could probably increase your speed with such a tool. I'll wait for pricing and a good review or two before I decide for or against.

I got to use this device at the GSS Symposium last month, and it's kind of neat: it does remove the friction from pulling the crosses through, but you can't apply tension to the string with the tool in place, so you're not losing the majority of the frictional losses from crosss string installation. I wish the folks at Stringway would modify it so you could apply tension with it in place: there is a tool out there that will allow it.
I agree with YU: after using it, I don't think it will add any speed to my job, and the saving in frictional losses is going to be pretty small.

looks like a good stringer would smoke it, but for most people this would be nice, i just dont see it being something i would use when i have 6 sticks to do

What about the friction when pulling the string through?

Might be a helpful tool for some. I've seen a wooden one posted on youtube a couple of years ago.
Not something an experienced stringer would ever use. After about 2 or 3 crosses and stringing one ahead, I feel like I can weave almost blindfolded. I know I can weave faster than what it would take to move and click that tool. |

Didn't Babolat have a similar tool that only worked with their racquets?

Yes, Babolat's was called the P.A.S.S. I don't remember what the letters stood for. Seemed like a good idea, but kinda clumsy to use.

to me it seems like it's more of a hassle than just weaving the crosses.
