i've noticed this too. Most vbulletin boards have a private messaging feature. it's much more handy than e-mail

Has TT ever allowed private messaging? I don't think so...

Tw has never allowed PM's, they have said in the past that they want all discussions to be "Public"

What about exchanging phone numbers and the like that we wouldn't necessarily want to be public?

Yes but that is not what the OP is referring to. Most forums have a separate messaging system where other forum members can contact each other within the forum having nothing to do with email. TW has not had PM's since I've been here.

If it's not available, then why would it even be considered an option? Apparently emailing is the closest thing to "private messaging."

AlpineCadet: It is considered an option because it is the default option on vBulletin and nearly every other forum solution. On top of this, the vast majority of implementations offer this basic functionality. E-mailing is not the closest thing to private messaging, private messaging is one or two tickboxes away.
With that said, I do understand the policy, and see no reason to change it (at least for myself).

I personally think Private Messaging could be great; it could ease up on the congestion of the boards a little bit. And people probably check these boards more frequently than their e-mail, so Private Messaging could really help.
With that being said, I fully understand why TW has their policy in place, but I would like it if some form of non-email Private Messaging system is put in place. Last edited by NickC : 08-24-2008 at 04:34 PM. Reason: DELETE |

I could be wrong but out of common sense logic I'm guessing its these 2 things:
No promotion or advertising of Tennis Warehouse competitors allowed. This is our message board and we pay to maintain it. If you want to discuss a competitor, please be respectful of our request and do this privately, not on Talk Tennis. Violating this policy will result in an immediate two-week ban. Further violations will result in a permanent ban. so people don't exhange links to pirated tennis matches, and so they don't have to monitor the private chats. They can really reduce and limit that happening since people have to stay on the up and up when posting in the forum. both reasonable and understandable.
