Default Is ESPN out to destroy Tennis

All we see is Rodneck and the William sisters. It is getting old. I think they are trying to destroy tennis by showing such crap. I would have liked to see the Fedder match, better than a rerun.

Anymore I just record it on the dvr, and if it is Rodneck / Williams hype then just skip the match. Really not very good tennis watching them would prefer an Agassi / Coria match any day. Patrick Macenroe is also becoming annoying, he is to bias, so started turning the volume down.

After all this, I think ESPN should stop showing tennis, they are ruining the sport.

The only consolation to yesterday afternoon's broadcast was the Danilidou-Capriati match. That's one beautiful 1-handed backhand. If you look at her from afar, you might think it's Philippousis playing. They kind of have similar strokes. She sliced & diced Capriati in 2 sets. Serve and drop-volleying on the last point to clinch the match.

That Daniilidou-Capriati duel was a great match. There were a 14 shot point and a 23 shot point, that were wonderful to watch.

ESPN is actually trying to get more people to watch tennis, hence the obscene focus on popular American players like the Ghetto Sisters, Agassi, and Roddick. Sorry to say, but the foreign players just don't bring in the audiences (and the bucks) the way these players do.

Martha, it is clear that ESPN thinks the people won't watch because they don't like non-American players. The question here is wether that's because theyre not American or because they've never heard of them. If the answer is the latter, showing them might help people tune in next time (duh). If I were ESPN I'd want the people to tune into tennis because they know they'll get a good match, and not because a certain name is playing. This would also mean more consistent ratings.

While we're *****ing about television coverage, why don't they ever air doubles matches, when that's what most people play?

They're free to try to take a shot at me but the truth always hurts.

And re: ESPN's coverage, I think ESPN should start advertising the other players (particularly Federer, who will be at or near the top for quite a while) as much as they do the American players. If ESPN focuses on Roddick only--and then Roddick crashes out of a tournament early--well, duh, of course the ratings will slide because ESPN put all their eggs in one basket. But instead of coming to that logical conclusion, they'll just say, "See? No one's interested in watching tennis."

I'd love to see a commercial with Federer and Roddick a la the Sampras-Agassi commercials of yesteryear. I think that would definitely work towards getting people acquainted with other players and getting them to tune in to watch tennis.
