i use a finger on my forehand grip, its basically a conmtinental grip except my index finger is pointed towards the head, does anyone else use this and do u know if this is harmful to my finger or could worsen my strokes

I would not recommend it as a good grip, but it probably won't do you any harm.
Some players, like in the 1940s used to hit like that (Bobby Riggs?). Having a finger or thumb up the racket often means the racket is too heavy, or your form is off in some way. Unless you are planning to be a serve/volley type player, the continental would not be an optimum choice. My friend used to play like that. In Kung Fu when using a straight sword that is how you would grip the sword. He switched possibly due to incomfortability.
