Agassi looked pathetic out there, as usual. Totally overpowered, out hustled, out thought, out played.
Retire now Agassi before it gets more and more embarassing. |

I agree Agassi is now becoming another anonymous top 50 baseliner. He doesn't seem to have the magic. Six set points against Calleri in that one game, and he chumped out on every one of them. Calleri was hitting the ball amazingly, however, anything short or high in the first set and a half by Agassi was a winner

I love seeing Agassi getting destroyed by players with great one-handed backhands like Calleri and Federer. Way to show those sissy two-handers where they belong!

Grow up. I saw the match. Calleri was playing out of his mind in the first set - bottom line. There needs to be a second board for the shallow and small-minded.

On these boards it seems a player's future, potential, and talent are all based upon their last match and only that match. Lose your latest match and you're done for...pack it in (Agassi). Win a few matches in a row and you're the greatest of all time (Federer).
Agassi is one of the best. Not just based on past performance, but one of the best currently. He lost today. He'll win again. He'll lose again too, but he still has the potential to win a major. |

When someone says it just right and you can't think of anything better, you go with this....
Yeah, what Ash said. |

I agree with Ian Mercier and Ash Doyle... So many guys on this board are too extreme in their statements...

Well your smart, powerful player just lost to Calleri. And then, Quote:
Calleri hit some amazing shots, jumping on Agassi's serves and mixing up his own serves well. Down 4-5 and break points in the 2nd set, Calleri played some tough tennis, working Agassi over and popping in (at least that I can remember) big serve that Agassi couldn't even move to touch. I noticed something about Calleri that he couldn't do last time I saw him play--hit his forehand down the line. In the past, he could hit his bh anywhere, but could only hit his fh cross-court. He took several shots that Agassi crushed and hit them into the open court for winners. There were several interesting baseline "conversations" out there. To me, it showed what Calleri is truly capable of doing on the court. It was a very good effort on Calleri's behalf. |

What, only 6 Agassi fan boys showed up? Surely there are more of you too thoroughly devastated to show your faces.
Agassi was thrashed in the first and was extremely lucky to come from a break down twice in the 2nd. Andre "just call me 2nd fiddle" Agassi is f-i-n-i-s-h-e-d. |

agassi is a nice guy and a great personality. one of the best of all time..that being said, hes losing it recently. I think the game needs him because hes the only guy who consistantly packs the stands. But i think hes holding back too much. you watch him vs martin in the 99 final, he was swinging for it. Lately, he seems tentative. Lets hope he can pick it up a bit.

Great job by Calleri. Something like 20 winners and 5 errors in the first set. I love those matches when a guy blows agassi off the court (aka Federer masters finals). Calleri must have been blasting, like someone said, he's a poor mans gonzalez, and if they show it tonight, I'll probably agree. Agassi just can't keep up when people aren't being moved around by him. When people can ball with him from the baseline and blast, and aren't just running on a string, they can just whack winners all day if they are on, or even force errors out of Agassi becasue even he gets impatient.

I wouldnt say Calleri is a poors man Fernando Gonzalez, Calleri can hit his backhand a lot better than fernando, and he works the point more.
they both the hit the ball really hard but they are different players |

If it wasn't for ANDRE AGASSI, no one would be able to hit the ball as well as they do. ANDRE AGASSI changed a lot of the ways a lot of people hit the ball. A lot of these guys, ala Coria, and I'm sure a lot of others, look up to Andre and I'm sure have modelled their game after Andre's in some form or another. Give respect where respect is due! Belee dat! Later

I watched the match and Calleri was totally in the zone for a set
and a half. He was very fortunate to pull out the second set because he would not have won the third-he looked exhausted. As usually Agassi ran his opponent ragged,if this was a grand slam Agassi would have won in five, quaranteed. Anybody who watched the match could see that Calleri was spent in the latter part of the 2nd set-the pressure, heat, and all the running was taken its toll-good for him that he closed out the match. |
