Default Cyberflash too stiff, Cyber Blue too soft? Big ACE?

Hi guys,

I currently use a Cyberflash 17 main and gosen SG 16 cross. I love it; however, after hitting for an 1-2 hours I notice that my arm/elbow is a bit sore. I tried using cyberblue instead of cyberflash but found the strings way too soft.

I like the stiff board like feel of cyberflash, but I don't know if my elbow can handle it. Anyone have any suggestions? Is Pro Supex Big Ace a good try?

Thanks

Have you tried lowering the tension? CF plays well at lower tensions, and you shouldn't have so much of a "stiff board feel" like you described.

I normally string the cyberflash at 55 and the gosen at 57. I have not tried a full set of cyberblue yet... I will keep that in mind next time

Big Ace is softer than Cyber Flash but is slightly stiffer than Cyber Blue.

How long have you been using this setup? It may just be because your arm is still getting used to having to swing differently because of the different string.

I've been using it for at least 3months or so... the soreness isn't really that bad at all. But it is noticeable. Should I just ignore it?

If you are going to stick with the polys, you should give Weiss Cannon Silver String a try. Based upon what you are saying, I think you might like it. Good blend of comfort and control for a poly.

FluoroCarbon or Multifeel works. Also reverse the tension to mains 57 and crosses 55, you may be surprised.

Cyberflash 17g is 1.25mm. Its stiffness rating is 240 (which seems to make your arm sore). Cyberblue in the same gauge is rated at 233 (which you call too soft).

I would suggest you use a thinner gauge CF, such as 1.20 (which is rated 236 in stiffness), or you you use a thinner gauge Gosen cross. (Is your Gosen SG Gosen OG Sheep Micro? If so, here are the stiffness ratings for that string: 16g =203, 17g =199, 18g =190.)

I've tried a hybrid of CF 1.20 and Gosen OG Micro 18g, and I thought it was very very nice.

Either one should soften up the whole string-bed, but retain the qualities that you like.

The ratings many times are not realistic. Cyber Blue is much much softer than Cyber Flash. I know they list Pro Hurricane soft, but it feels stiffer than other 3rd generation polys.

So how does CF do at a higher tension? I have a set in line of string to try out and I was gonna do a hybrid with x-1 biphase. 62/60 tension.

I found Big Ace to be softer than Cyber Blue. String CB tighter, or try SPPP.
