Does talking up racquets here drive up used prices?

Well does it?

Yapping about how wonderful frames like i Prestige, i Radical, ti Radical, PS 85, 200G, PC 600 etc etc are does it push the prices up on these vintage sticks?

I think it might and I think I might have in some small way contributed to higher prices on some frames particularly the i Prestige.

Whadda you think, should we all just shut up and enjoy our classic sticks?

Glad I have my stash, tho I still haven't found an affordable pair of PC600's.

I have four Wilson Ncode Blades 106" used for seven months and are in 9/10 condition. Will people talk about these sticks so I can sell them and try and get some money back..

Old racquets are not very good IMO. Very heavy and very little power. The new frames designed bring tennis to a whole new level with different spins and levels of play that just were not possible with trash like the Dunlop 200g, Fischer vacume Pros, Wilson Mids etc. etc. Old racquets also lose playability over time as the graphite majically disintegrates just from sitting around. Eventually they will turn to dust. When the frame materials break down the integrity of the structure goes with it causing more shock to the body. In the end it can be very, very dangerous.

For this reason I try to discourage people from vintage frames like 200gs etc and go to your local sporting goods store and purchase a new babolat or whatever.

Stay away from those old tennis racquets. This is your health we are talking about.

That aside I find my kPro Staff 88 - at 375 g - ridiculously easy to swing due to balance. serves are bombs when the sweetspot is hit

I don't know. What I do know is that apparently antique golf stuff is valuable and that auctioneers/antique sellers a few years back thought the vintage tennis racquet area would be a goldmine. But tennis players are apparently different from golfers. Hasn't panned out. Glad I didn't buy stock in that trend!

For me, it's a trip down memory lane, and at best, I get a chance to swing a frame that I might have/should have/wished I'd bought. For example, I passed up the Donnay WST Cobalt years back and bought a Pro Kennex instead. The PK was fine, but I was always left wondering about the Cobalt. I found one really cheap, tried it a bit, then sold it and reimbursed myself.

I just don't see vintage tennis racquets as becoming a hot thing. Talk on this site might inflame two or three people to chase down a frame at the same time, though, but I doubt it's large numbers, etc.

Those old pro kennex and Donnays are crap racquets too. Especially any of the Pro Kennex ace series and the Donnay plus racquets. Complete and utter junk that is best used for landfill.

You know, I suspect it does to an extent.

As we wax poetic about these older racquets (which are brilliant pieces of sporting gear), we'd be better served to institute a systematic code language to throw the cash speculators off our scent... make them go back to old golf equipment! Muah ha ha haaaaa

Therefore, we'll say stuff like, "That green 1988 Head Elite Pro is a piece of junk!" [piece of junk = superlatively good racquet]. Meanwhile, the non-tennis enthusiast picker will search this forum for historical data, and will wonder why we lump the Elite Pro and Spalding Smasher in the same category as "junk."

Meanwhile, we carry on with our hobby.

I think a key aspect is to effectively stoke and fan the hype for classics and not-so-classics to younger collectors - those who were not even born when the rackets were first introduced. How that works? I don't know. But with patience and gritted teeth I do manage to offload my crappiest "junk" and end out in front.
