So much for the haters saying the Williams dont care about the tour. Venus plays a tier 4 tournament and wins it, what a fighter, battling all the odds and still wants to be part of the tour.

Well just ignore my posts then. You need to have a better sense of humor and not take things so seriously on a tennis forum.

Interesting, I did not realize that. Shriver won a boatload of doubles titles too. Over a hundred if I remember correctly.

Not a good club to join. If Wozniacki was aware of this history, would she even think about making an 11th hour change--a serious change in her coaching...just to have a chance at a major?

Just seen Maria's post match interview - she threw MAJOR shade to Wozniacki and Jankovic. When asked on her desire to finish number one:

- ''I dont really think about it too much, can't even remember who finished number one the last 5 years. I know I was number one at some point this year but I couldn't tell you who's finished number the last few years. I remember who wins the slams, not who finishes number one''

Give or take a few words.

Well, Hell! Sharapova delivers the professional tennis quote of the year--and a great contrast/bookend to the infamous Safina comment:

Quote:
"The people will remember you by number one, not by winning a grand slam."
Sharapova has this one point right on target--the reason she's still trying to compete.

Wonder if Serena would still play if she had no chance to win a major. Knowing her best may not be good enough. Does she love playing?

Serena doesn't care about the tour, but it seems the feeling is mutual. With all the promotional stuff they do, it seems like the WTA goes out of their way not to highlight Serena, who's by far the best player on the tour.

Must be a bit uncomfortable that the top players are being dominated again by Serena.

Why on earth would she still play if she thought she could not win a major? Why would any great play if he or she thought he or she could no longer compete at the highest level?

I don't think it is Sharapova being bitc*y here. Have you heard her in interviews where interviewers have asked Sharapova what her stats were in the past or which seven players she played to get a grand slam title? She literally does not remember her own stats so why would she remember somebody else's?

Also, she is absolutely correct here. People remember who wins a slam, not who finishes number one.

Bar Federer I think, I haven't really heard of a single tennis player who remembers these kinds of things. I remember a same interview with Serena in Wimbledon where she was asked basic questions on some random stats, matches in her career probably any real fan would answer easily and she was incapable of giving even a single good answer.

All these stats, H2h nonsense are for the trolls, no-lives etc. to argue with ; pro players don't care about these kinds of things.

Almost all players know their own stats and records pretty well. Maybe Serena is an exception but I doubt it.

BONUS STAT: YEAR-END TOP 10
With one exception, the year-end Top 10 is now set:
1. Victoria Azarenka
2. Maria Sharapova
3. Serena Williams
4. Agnieszka Radwanska
5. Angelique Kerber
6. Sara Errani
7. Li Na
8. Petra Kvitova
9. Samantha Stosur
10. [Marion Bartoli or Caroline Wozniacki] (depends on Wozniacki in Sofia)

From the WTA.

Venus is still playing despite not being a factor in most tourneys.
