I think Li should do well in the spring leading up to RG. This might be her last real shot to win another major. I wanted her to win the AO since that's clearly the major she likes the most. Also her region's major and she's the anti-Stosur even with all the Chinese supporters there.
I don't know if the Chinese fans help or hurt her more. Both this year and 2011 she wanted the crowd to stop yelling out in Chinese. She was also pretty tearful in her Chinese press conference. But it's true that Li's performances themselves are better than Stosur's in front of her own.

Why dismiss Li after her performance the past two weeks? She may get to the semis at the FO and US Open, especially if she makes fewer errors.

I think the French is her best shot going ahead this year. USO she's never been that good. And Wimbledon she did make 2 QFs, but her serve isn't that impressive so she would need to avoid facing Serena.

That is the problem, you never know whether error-na or goat-na is going to show up

I agree the French is her best shot at a major this year. Wimbledon she can win if she avoids Serena, but Serena is likely to win every Wimbledon until 2016 atleast. U.S Open she hasnt done well, I dont know why as it should suit her game.

I respectfully disagree about not choking. I dont think the injury was the cause of her loss at all. She was falling apart mentally and becoming ErrorNa before the first injury. She also played some of her best tennis of the match directly after the second and worse fall, but then it was back to same old, choking break points, errors galore. The loss was entirely her own doing, and absolutely nothing to do with injury.

I agree with the rest of your post though.

I think it was equal parts actually. She definitely was choking, but at the same time I have to think the ankle hampered her to some degree. She probably wins in straights if she doesnt roll the ankle..who knows. I think her serve, which was shaky already was further undermined by the ankle. I think that was the shot most affected by it.

I don't think the injuries mattered that much, but was she ever that far ahead in the second set? She just started spaying balls, Li being Li. She's done it her whole career at any number of stages in a tournament, stages of a match.

I don't see any choke. The word is so overused on TW. Basically, if a player loses a match, which, in theory, they could have won (because they they had a lead, because they are generally good enough to win), it's a choke.

She was already trailing in the 2nd set, down a break of serve, and lost momentum and form, when she injured her ankle and made a comeback to get back level, before losing it anyway with a barrage of errors that lasted until early in the 3rd set until her next good patch. So I say BS to the idea she wins in straights without the injury. There was definitely a 3rd set. Maybe you could argue she would be in better shape and serving better in the 3rd, but given her overall performance as it was still very unlikely she is consistent or solid enough mentally to win that inevitable 3rd set even without the falls and injury. She should have won, but she just didnt play well enough, and did not live up to the promise of her semifinal promise and 1st set performance, and her break point conversion rate was absolutely terrible, that is where she lost the match. Her serve was also way off from the start, long before any injury.

So the story is Li lost it > Azarenka won it?

The story is: Azarenka at her best is one the best players in the world. The same cannot be said of Li Na at her best--especially since the majority of her career has been less than remarkable.

Li Na doesn't belong in this thread. She had a great tournament and was up a set in the final before rolling her ankle*, i.e. an injury.

*rolled it twice, actually.

I'd agree she doesn't belong on the list, but she seemed to move and play pretty well after both ankle turns. She simply starting wasting too many opportunities, missing shots, while Azarenka stepped up and played well on big points and played better overall.

She definitely does not belong on this list. She has had the best six months in terms of her results in her career since hiring Rodriguez(aside from the FO win.) She should have a pretty good year if she stays motivated.

I was reading that Lisicki is working with a new coach. Maybe he help her get back on track. Ricardo Sanchez I think his name is.

I heard about that. I don't think Sabine's dad is as much of a control freak as Caroline's dad. And it's clear she has glaring holes to address.
